I'm currently playing £295 total, but about £25 on a monthly basis DD on my Picasso Diesel. I just did a quick search on go compare and I can get an Mr2 Turbo or a BMW Z3 2.8 for £265 on insurance!

Crazy and it's the same insurance company yet those are cheaper than my Picasso Diesel 2.0 which is far slower, makes no sense

I used to have an Mr2 turbo and was paying £375 a year third party, how can a performance car with far higher BHP be cheaper than a 6 seater Diesel

14Years NCB

Statistics my good man
People who drive Picasso 2.0 diesels crash more often than people who drive MR2 Turbos.

My 2005 Audi A4 TDI cost more to insure than my old 1994 Astra Turbo with 330BHP.

Yes, a highly modified car with value assured insurance and a powerful engine in a crappy shell costs less than a factory standard oil burner.

It's nuts isn't it?. But it's all relative I suppose. Insurance for our Peugeot 4007 is £298 fully comp. Yet I pay £79 per year to insure an Aprilia RSV superbike with a fully comp policy+protected NCB.

Having said that the 4007 clocks up about 25k miles a year wheras the bike is a weekend toy and very occasional commuter which probably does about 2000 miles a year if its lucky.

Will have a consider!

Picasso Diesel = £145 12 months tax (40mpg)
BMW Z3 = £175 6 months tax (30mph)

Calling a non m z3 a performance 2 seated is a bit of a stretch ( though I quite like them really), especially compared with an mr2 turbo

Insurance appears to be a tax on stupidity to me.

I ran some I wonder quotes some time back.

Evo VIII FQ300 - £2800ish
Blobeye Impreza STI - £2300
Jag S-Type R 400bhp - £1600
Toyota Soarer 261bhp 4l v8 or 2.5TT 276bhp - £960
Civic Type R....£3000.

I know its more than just power and layout that factor price, but the only FWD and sub 200bhp car is the most expensive by a reasonable margin.

FWIW, 21 male, 2yrs ncb, license for 2.5yrs, reasonable postcode.

231bhp plus a 'Ring sticker is performance in my book :p

It's based on the number of each model recovered by tractor from hedgerows by angry farmers

I can insure a nice model supra for less than my little brother insures his 1.1 206 :D nice feeling this getting older malarkey.

renewed my insurance today and got a nice drop of £200 over the year after threatening to leave if they didn't bring my insurance in-line with what other companies offered. very happy. 5yrs ncb driving 5 yrs, 23yrs old on a 1.1 fiat panda in a not so great area but not too bad. £460 fully comp, with a few nice extras.

now to pass mot haha
