*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Gaikai seems to be doing just fine with PC streaming though, no? Supposedly 50million users (doubt unique) use it each month - I dno who that is or what region :p

EDIT: Seems it was going from strength to strength with publishing deals and breadth of service and then Sony bought them - I really dno whats happened since?!?

I've never used OnLive (now defunct?) or Gaikai so I can't really say. I still remain dubious, however.

I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong though as it would be an awesome feature, if it works well enough. :)

I doubt Sony would spend all that money on something that doesn't work properly :p

It seems with all the new cloud game features its more to with latency than anything - something thats not going to change significantly thsat quickly for the masses...

Lots of promise, just poor infrastructure - at least live demos will give us an idea. in the future MP should just feel like SP...

What's the consensus on getting a hybrid drive or SSD for the PS4? A friend is keen on getting one, my guess is it won't add much....

We dont know, it should give a wider performance boost than what it did on the PS3 purely because the majority of games will install to HDD and those are the ones that really loaded quicker on the PS3.

Let others work it out first is my advice especially as the only hybrid worth having is only 750Gb (the 1Tb is only 5400rpm :() and when you start talking about SSDs youve got other things to worry about (TRIM support) and the pricing at launch...

will the ability to stream demos etc be available at launch for EU?

Nope.

There was no mention on Gaikai’s services in the conference, can you give us an update on when that will roll out?

Yeah sure and I’ll tell you why is wasn’t touched upon last night. So the plan is to begin with North America next year and the plan is to provide a streaming service that will allow for PS3 content initially to be streamed to firstly PS4 then PS Vita and then PS3.

And so that will happen in 2014 in North America initially. Now, and I touched upon these issues of broadband in Europe during the presentation – Europe is of course on the roadmap for that service to be deployed at some point in the future, but for reasons outside of our control we don’t yet have a timeline for it. So at a show which is now pretty global in its reach but primarily aimed at a European audience, we didn’t really want to start talking about the virtues of this great cloud-based service without knowing exactly when it’ll come to Europe.

We’ve got a roadmap, there’s just a few bumps along the road that need to be ironed out.

So it’s next year?

2014 – early-ish for North America.

No word on Europe?

Nothing to say yet.

far too expensive for very little benefit

also spending £200+ on a hard drive for a £349 console is just stupid imo, that £200 could be better spent on a Vita which has remote play, which you could use to pre-load games for you so by the time you get to the tv the game has loaded.

Sony showing more than 50 games at TGS - Over ten PS4 titles will be exhibited, including Capcom's Deep Down

The titles publicly announced so far are Knack, Deep Down, Driveclub, Killzone: Shadow Fall,Wolfenstein: The New Order, PlayRoom and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, meaning that there should be at least four titles that haven’t been announced yet"

It will most likely be SCEJA games - so fingeres crossed for From Software and Platinum Games, could be some Indies too :)

Deep Down - online only - hmmm...

4 Japanese targeted games that the West look at and go WTF?!?

I wonder if these games will be running on actual PS4 consoles, and also if we will see the mythical beast that is BF4.

From Software and Platinum I wish!

Also I watched some Wolfenstein footage the other day. I'm kind of meh over Wolfenstein from some of the reboots we've had in the past but this one looks very interesting!

I know I was wishing hard when I said that - From is vaguely likely (Demon Souls 2?), I dont think Platinum is though, seemed to very aligned with Nintendo now. Just hope whatevers announced it will turn up here.

Hell Deep Down isnt slated to leave Japan/Asia yet :( - only one I really want to see though of the announced...
