** Coming soon ** - High quality Rollei Action Cams!!

I've just been thinking about getting a dash mounted camera for the car, the £99 one might be the one to get. 60fps at 720p should be more than good enough.

That's what I was thinking you could get a couple for multi angle recording...

Yeah, that would be ace on a track day. One looking forward, one backwards, one in the cockpit and one looking at the driver. All for less than the cost of a single GoPro.

The cheap ones would indeed be nice if they could attach external mics? Also, don't forget that most tracks get funny with suction mounts...

Agreed - for a bit of in-dash footage or a bit of countryside driving surely that's more than enough?

Yup what I was thinking. Doesn't matter if it's not 4k quality really - I guess the only time that it would be nice is on a gorgeous alpine journey.

I think for a bit of non track driving suction cups should be ok? But not sure if they sell them

I was using it as an example, off the top of my head. :) I'd be better mounted outside of the car. Or on the motorbike etc... it wouldn't be just for one use - just an option to have it "indoors" too. I'm thinking of the activities I do, having the ability to take it skiing for example is appealing.

Andrew, have you got any pictures of the cameras without their waterproof cases?
I'm thinking two of the low end ones strapped together to shoot 3D PoV.

I wonder who make gopro.. as it isnt gopro..

They sub out, you need to find out the controller and sensor and then compare those.Firmware can change rate at which something may record.

Just like about every other device in the history of devices then?

Woodman labs design them, them some factory in china will throw them together.

Oh and since Foxconn now own part of the company.......

Based on features, battery life, expandability etc I would put the 4S as the better value unit overall. For the best bang per buck excluding what you may or may not get in the box then the Racy is where its at. I Couldnt say what the quality of the Racy is like though, best get one used :)

for the sake of using one of these in the car... is it possible to run it while charging/plugged in... say wanted to record entire journeys... would rather not have to run down to empty then wait in services for it to charge or what ever haha! :p that £100 one does look rather tasty!

Nice, i got myself a Gopro 3 last week thinking it was the best option on my boat, but the battery life sucks, also once it’s in the waterproof case you can’t run a usb lead to power it :s but the image it takes is amazing, and the wifi via android is needed i think for the best angles,, here was my first try last Sunday but the battery only lasted 1hr tops..

Yeah, battery life on the GoPro sucks. It's even worse if you add the (frankly awful) touchscreen bacpac.

I always make sure I have at least 2 spare batteries before I take it anywhere.

I can’t understand Gopro, the reason they make the camera in the first place is for action and portability. So why does the battery life suck, no backlight on the onboard display and why can’t it be waterproof out of the box? My 2yr old Kodak sports camera is waterproof and hasn’t self destructed yet from salt water plus it has a massive battery life... Very poor on Gopro really, but the video/picture quality is the trade off for me.. Still it’s a pain to use without other items to support it waterproof case, camera tripod mount, batteries: s

The racey seems to be the best bang for buck version and if i wasn't already heavily invested in gopro stuff, would probably use one as a backup/second cam.

The higher end versions seem to be lacking to many features to warrant the price tag. The free gopro app is not to be overlooked, it really is fantastic.

I run my gp3 black in a frame mount, which really enhances the sound as its not muffled by the case. This of course enables me to have it plugged in charging while mounted to the rollcage :)
