Squadron 42 - Star Citizen : Wing Commander Style Space Sim

I'm talking about something like WoT - better vehicle, low equipped, can still destroy a lower tier vehicle, fully upgraded, sometimes, without much hassle. It was the same in Freelancer, a fully upgraded ship from the start of the game, could barely face a higher tier one.

Roberts said something in the line "you won't be able to maneuver the ship that has sustained damage to the thrusters, as you would a brand new one". Some hope is still there.

Basically, I'm talking a sim approach or an aracadish one.

The damage will be modular, if you hit the engines once your through the shields and armor..... that ship will have no propulsion other than maneuvering thrusters. They are toying with the feasibility of hull breaches and rapid depressurization etc. You will be able to target systems and subsystems too to cripple ships.

There is no "hit and dice roll to see if you killed any critical systems" you will only hit them if you hit their location on the ship

Smaller ships can take down larges ones if the pilots good enough and can still damage larger ones.... it may just take more time to do so. Swarms of small ships should rip the larger ones apart.

That sounds just amazing! :D

I know right :D

Each ship has its own unique traits too for example Hornet fighter holds a lot fo firepower and can take a fair beating.

The cutlass however in compairson is more nimble, more heavily armed and holds more upgrade slots but is a bit of a glass cannon, TI can dish out the punishment but it cant take it.

The Cutlass in a skilled pilots hands is going to be a vile and deadly weapon! The hornet however is a lot more forgiving than the cutlass but can be just as lethal in the right hands

New caterpillar pirate boarding ship artwork.... ZOMG lol

Warning large images!

That design must have been inspired by the xwing class from sw. Looks so like it texture wise and almost shape wise if you look for it.

Can someone clear something up for me please?

If you were to sub this or even purchase on release and begin the game with whatever ship you have, will you always keep that ship or are you liable to lose it?

For example, let's say you paid the £42 now and got that particular ship in your hanger. What happens if you're playing the game and you get raided or die, or whatever. Do you lose that ship for good?

I read something about the LTI but I'm not quite sure what's going on with it. Looking at the membership options, the LTI was on explicitly advertised with the insane admiral membership.

LTI (life time insurance) was an orginal pledger perc......which means that if they died the main Hull (not the cargo or upgraded components) would be replaced.....this wouldnt be instant, but only when that ship had been produced in the economy...so the ship actually has to be built by someone, somewhere in the universe and then your insurance company could purchase it and give it to you...but they could be in a que of other people that are looking to purchase that ship.

Now you can buy insurance in game.....CR has stated that it wont be very expensive, so in theory you should never loose your ship, unless you forget to insure it.

But if you have a bigger ship like the Idris you could be waiting for a longtime for it to be replaced while the economy of the universe slowly churns them out.

Also if you have a friend or a trusted person that was an orginal backer, they can still purchase ships with LTI and gift them to you so that you have LTI....you give him the money, he purchases the ship and then gifts it to your account.

I can see a bit of A-wing in there to.

Any of you guys planning an ocuk clan? I've never done the clan thing before but I think having a little backup or exploring with others would be great in SC.

What can people actually do whilst waiting for their ship to enter the economy? Presumably you could join the crew of a larger ship as a gunner or something?

Just to add to Francky's good explanation, every ship package comes with hull insurance, it'll say how long that insurance lasts in the Package details (4, 6, 12 months as an example) when you buy it. You'll buy insurance, just like you do in real life on a monthly basis or longer if you wish. But yep, if you forget and go out and get destroyed... bye, bye ship I'm afraid.

LTI packages can still be gifted by Original/Veteran backers until 26th Nov.

Also, there is no subscription to the game. You pay once and that's it.

You can either get a loan (if you have no credits) and buy a smaller ship, run missions that can reward you a ship at the end or you can crew a ship with friends.

Just came across the game today and must say it looks utterly fantastic:eek:
What's the current status of the game? is beta available?
-edit-
Nevermind, ages to wait yet:(

The dog fighting alpha is due end of nov start of dec so you can get some cockpit pew pew going on soon!

Dont wait... help make this entirely crowdfunded with no publisher and no outside investment.

We're making game development history here folks!

Nah nothing interesting available yet, supposed to be a dog fighting module before Christmas but I wouldn't hold your breath! There is a hangar module, but to be honest they needn't of bothered, I'd rather they put their time into the dog fighting module.

Er you do realise the Hangar module is one of the major parts of the game and not just something they threw together for promo purposes?

It'll be where your ships reside and where you customise it's load out and settings.

Spoken like someone who knows nothing about the game lol... sorry but its how it is

LMAO, here come the little defenders :D The hangar module has been a worthless release for many. I didn't expect much from it, CR had already warned about its content enough times. For me the dog fighting module is what I'm waiting for. Walking around a hangar looking at your ships and animations I've already seen a hundred time just does very little for me. You can talk about the mods etc all you like, but it's not there yet is it?

Whilst you don't think it was needed, it certainly helped bring in a significant amount of pledges/upgrades to the game and it was nice to walk around my pledged ships. Sure its not as fun as the dogfighting module will be but it's an important part of the completed game and its a module that they can release to show case the ships.

I also think that as they complete the ships, they will appear in the hanger so for some yes, it wasn't very good but the other ships will come such as the Cutlass or the big tanker etc.

Oh I do realise that they had to release something to keep the rabid masses happy. As I've only said I wish they had put the effort into the dog fighting module which potentially is less than 3 months away now. I can wait for that, I've waited long enough for the game already. Of course if the development streams are completely separate it really doesn't matter :)
