I bought a day one edition bundle for £430 which did not include a game. I paid for the bundle I will receive on day of release, at no time did I contract or pay for a game as part of the bundle I bought. Microsoft have now given me a game for free in addition to the bundle of items I had already bought contingent on my maintaining the order I already had for the Day one bundle of items. The game is free and in addition to the bundle of items I had already contracted for.
In this case the game is free.
If I were to be ordering the day one edition now with the game already included I would be contracting for a bundle of stuff including the game and so I would view the game as an integral part of the bundle I am buying and therefore not "free" as such as I am expecting it as part of the bundle of items I have purchased. You could however make the argument that as the bundle previously was at the same price not including the game it is OK to market it as "now including a free game" I suppose.
Right, I'm back off to Total War 2: Rome and giving the Gauls a kicking whilst I expand the glorious Iceni empire
