Speeding :(

Sure thing Mr Perfect. I bet you've never exceeded 50mph in a 50mph zone.

Everyone speeds occasionally, getting caught is exactly what I said, being unlucky.

I speed regularly. But you wouldn't catch me whining if I got caught. You took a risk, you accept the consequences.

Or those that do 40mph on a fast sweeping country lane, and continue to do 40mph in town where the limit is 30mph, and then proceed to get mad when you dare overtake them
I see drivers like that every day as I have to cover a 4 mile B road on my way to work. 40 in a 60, 40 in a 30.

Makes me want to get a bit stabby every time.

On sunday 25th august I was coming down a dual carriageway then suddenly stamped hard on the brakes as I noticed (almost too late) a Truvelo camera staring at me. One of these horrible ominous looking things,

Came to a halt just in front of the camera. I was probably doing near 70 in a 50 and I think I got down to 45 just before reaching the camera. But not sure if I triggered it or not as I don't know how many metres away triggers the lines on the road, and not sure how close I was to the camera in metres by the time I'd reduced the speed below 50mph. I read on a forum that if you don't hear anything in about 2 weeks it's probably alright. Do you think I'm safe now as it's gone 2 weeks?

The 2 week rule has exceptions... such as if reasonable justification for the delays can be explained through:

- being in an enforcement marked vehicle
- being in a new vehicle
- recently moved address
- over public holidays/weekends
- your dog ate it
- anything else that the Magistrate may deem appropriate

Outside of these exceptions, what matters is not the date of receipt, but the date of posting to demonstrate due diligence in attempting to allow the NIP to arrive at the house within that 14 working day timeframe.

My course offer was in the NIP I received, so if you've got the NIP and no course offer, I don't think you'll get it.

I was nabbed speeding recently, (70 in a 60 on a dual carriageway, managed to completely miss the posted limit sign :(), got a NIP through a week later, no offer of a speed awareness course but received a letter with an offer for one 2 weeks after I sent the NIP back.

The wife and I have found the best thing to help keep the speed down is one of those satnavs that pings at you when you're above the speed limit. It doesn't stop you going faster when you need to, but it does remind you not to cruise around significantly over speed. It's annoying enough that it effectively trains you not to get pinged at constantly by breaking the speed limit all the time.

Given the proliferation of speed signs and constant changing of speed limits (I live in West London where it's ridiculous), it's handy to actually have the speed limit on your dash and have it tell you when you are over speed.

It also helps that it tells us where the cameras are located and where the mobile camera areas are. Well worth the £16 pounds a year for a subscription that regularly updates, and much cheaper than a speeding ticket and subsequent shafting by your insurance for speeding points.

You have my sympathies :(

As much as I would rather be in my car, I have to say I enjoy my 1 stop on the tube getting to work, it means that when I do go out for a drive, it's much more fun!

This it true, speed laws are as serious as all the others, cant do the time, don't commit the crime.
While I have never been caught speeding in my misspent youth I received an IN10 and a TS10 - 9 points in total and I had to retake both my theory and driving test, however now I have a clean licence and all my particulars and have never run a red light again, I still like to get my foot down whenever its safe to do so.

See I just don't get it in that case. Doing 40mph in a 30 is reckless and dangerous and warrants punishment/awareness. Doing 70 in a 60 isn't anywhere near as bad, you generally do not pose any hazard to pedestrians in a 60mph zone.

Out of interest, has anyone on the forum been done for speeding on the M40? Never seems to be any police presence and I would say the average speed is substantially over 70.

Bunch of child killers in this thread. I hope you all get banned :mad:

resisting the urge to bite.........

you can speed safely, not all stretches of road are bad to speed on, biggest example would be 80-90mph on a nice, dry deserted M6 at 3am.
Some roads are 30 for no good reason, some 40s and 50s are the same.
When its obviously safe to do so I like to put my wifes car (mx5) through its paces and have some fun with it.
I don't go zooming through the high street or past schools and the like.

At the top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere with not a single car on the road, I'm inclined to agree with you but we can't pick and choose what laws we abide by.

Theres a dual carriageway near me thats a 30. Since its double lane you'd never in a million years think its a 30, but thats what the signs say.

The limits aren't always appriopriate for the road, but thats no excuse for not following them
