Prince William to leave armed forces

Big deal. He's done seven years and we wouldn't want our future king to die before his time. :p Good luck to him in whatever he does next.

No because they wouldn't be allowed out early.

Shall we chain them to their jobs then. The military at officer level is very often seen and used as a stepping stone towards something else. This is hardly new.

Do you have a problem with doctors, nurses and teachers leaving after a few years too? Ever thought that the good that he did in his years already far outweighed the cost of training?

Meh this is just the beginning of him being King in the next 5 or so years.

The queen will bow out early to be with phil

Charles isnt wanted or liked by most and the Diana lovers would frown on Camilla being anywhere near it

If the Royal PR machine has any clue what so ever they put in William + Hot Wife + New Prince straight in there to keep everyone happy, He could be king for 50 years. The nation will rejoice!!!

Anything to say about all the chaps that join and save BA and the other airlines a fortune in training?

He's just become a father. Kind of makes sense to me as someone who is a father and was in the forces. It's not exactly a family friendly job.

Good for him. He's already done 10 times more than the doubters on this forum.

I think the main reason is it was intefering with the "family business".

Basically with Prince Phillip and the Queen supposed to be winding down official engagements (rightly so!) he has to spend more time doing engagements. AFAIK he wasn't too keen on leaving but basically had to to do his "duty".

Just because he is leaving the armed forces, doesn't mean he is not going to use the helicopter training for something else in his life, weather it be for a job, or for his own personal use.

I cant believe you guys are making such a big fuss about it, he is part of the Royal Family and our future King, he had some money spent on him to turn him into a helicopter pilot and now he is leaving after 7 years to concerntrate on his royal duties and charity work.... where is the problem here?
If you want to make this into a "waste of public money" thread may i suggest you start with the BBC instead?

The only person in this thread who's actually said it was a waste of money is the OP.

Flt Lt Wales:

1,301 total flying hours with the RAF
3 years in search and rescue
156 operations
149 people rescued

Seems worth the money to me.
