Are double barelled surnames shellfish?

This topic is funny as I have just seen a facebook person who had what looked like 3 or 4 surnames, just stupid.

I was going to start a thread last night about stupid first names but I might as well drop it here.

When I was teaching I had 4 students with the name of Chelsea, Chelsey, Chellsee and Chelcee.
I have recently come across a baby called C-Enna.
In my wifes class she has children called Nafan and LC (yes just LC).

I have a double-barrelled surname...it is hardly my fault though...it was given to me, I didn't choose it..neither did my parents..or theirs...it goes back at least 4 generations that I know of, perhaps more.

Judging people by their name alone is far worse in my opinion than the name itself.

ref: Jessica Ennis-Hill I'm surprised she didn't just keep her maiden name - tis fairly standard AFAIK for people in the public eye or for female academics with publications etc.. to keep the same name

I though double barreled names tended to occur at some point when the wife/wife's family believe that their family name is particularly important or something...

Personally I just don't get the point, if you double barrel because you want to keep your surname you've failed as you've created a new surname... What happens when your kids marry someone with a double barreled name? Quadruple barrel by their logic.

Just 5 generations down the line and you've got a 64 barreled surname.

The worst crime is people with double barreled surname and a double barreled forename, I mean, when they tell you their name how are you supposed to know what name goes where?

They're pretty bad. My gf teaches a Siobhan, not pronounced 'Shivorn' but actually see-obe-han. Mia pronouced Maya. She also has a Con, a Kay-Cee, Jedi (with older sibling Levi), Saul, Jaykub and Kai spelled just Ki. Jazmin is another now that I think of it. I work with a Chelsie.

When I was at school I found the only people with double barrelled names to be either compete and utter stuck up snobs or the opposite - chavs/******/scum/council estate vermin

I had this off my wife before we was married because she's the last habberley in her family to carry the name. But thankfully she's realised habberley-martin is a bit silly so she's just took mine

I think they're pretty stupid, same with middle names, but I have neither, so it doesn't bother me. Surname is (supposidly) 2933rd most popular in the UK. How uncommon.

I like seeing the failed ones though, like Hardy-Harr.

Double barrel surname because they are not sure who the father is perhaps? ;)

I would expect most of those to have the same surname :p
