Battlefield 4 Thread ~ Server details in opening post ~

It does, ive found it to be worse with ht off. Tried on the following cpu's.

i7 920 @4.2ghz
i7 930 @4.3ghz
i5 3570k @4.5ghz
i7 3770k @4.5ghz
i7 4770k @4.5ghz

The worst performer of them all was the 3570k, hence an upgrade at that time to the 3770k. Even at stock with that chip there was a signifigant difference. With a single card though, all the above chips coped very well with bf3.

I have a 4670k and 4770k cannot tell the difference between them in Bf3 using a 4gb 680 and both cpu's at 4.5ghz. Even adding a single or pair of 780's makes no difference for me. It locks at 60fps 1440p and is perfectly smooth on both..

Maybe the 4670k works better than the 3570k for multi card setups. ?

Just like BF2, you know how EA used to make decent games.

lol

they removed the unguided bombs that existed in BF2 for a reason. There was nothing to counter them, nothing that could be done, other than just sit there in your tank and wait for insta death.

A skilled pilot could completely control the battlefield in BF2 far more than in BF3. As others have said, the game had loads of querky mechanics like the dolphin diving stuff.

Rose tinted spectacles people.

I'm so please someone else thinks that. BF2 was great but like any game it wasn't perfect.

To be honest balancing the game is always going to be difficult. People become so good that short of blind folding the buggers a person in a plane or other vehicle should have an advantage against infantry on the ground.

Thats not to say Dice/EA don't come out with some seriously mind boggling ideas. Remember the blackhawk on mashtuur city when they first released it? The guns were like lasers and you had people going 100+ kills raping the entire map. Genius.

BF4 is certainly going to be my next big game (as quite a few people I know are getting it as well) but we all know its going to need a day one patch for something really obvious.

dice isnt that good themselves playing their own creation so there be lagging behind the player skill curve.

I don't think you'll ever find the beta testers with the sort of skill that the best participants in Level Battlefield do.

The only way to do it is put the game live, and watch and see how people learn. Then adapt.

Plus you can never predict peoples behaviour patterns. The USAS 12 in its unpatched form was more or less a portable IFV cannon. It was huge fun to use, but it became so ubiquitous that its all some people used, and became a target for everybody to rank up for.

It was huge fun to use, but not to be on the wrong end of. Dice figured people would get bored and move onto other weapons. But they didn't count on the metro 64 player 500 % stat whores will do anything just to get more points, even play the same map, over and over again for hours using the exact same weapon for the points.

That's why the USAS with devastating frag rounds is back in BF4. But only as a limited ammo battle pickup - because it limits the amount of time it can be used for and how many people.

True re the spectacles (my favourite pair ;)) but I have to say in 500+ hours I honestly never encountered a problem with dophin diving, also it's not disabled in BF3 from what I can see, so presume it will also be present in BF4 (prone was one of the big lackings of BC2 imo).

Re the tanks, yes a good pilot could be a serious problem but at least you had the opportunity to take to the skies yourself and actually be able to fly the things with a joystick as well as/better than kb+m, which imo is totally the way it should be! I haven't flown for any significant time in BC2 or BF3 due to it not being optimised for joystick and just feeling wrong to me on kb+m.

Personally I loved the balance in BF2 and that I could be alive for whole minutes at a time :D (unlike in the modern versions), and I wish the BF series would return to it's previous splendor (with the updated gfx I just can't do without).

bf2 was miles better than bf3. Dons rafa's goate "and thats a fact"

Yup heard about jets in BF 2 being an massive problem and way too overpowered especially with the dropping bombs, glad I never played/owned it! :D :p

Personally if I had it my way for bf 4:

- remove prone; imo it does nothing but hinder the gameplay, although I got use to it eventually but still like to see it gone again, imo it was one of the reasons why the "gameplay" is better in bc 2

- remove the gunship and jets and stick with just apaches, transport/blackhawks and the little bird for aircraft, too many vehicles just makes the game harder to balance and as a result I feel brings the gameplay down "overall", I honestly think BF 3 would have been 100 times more fun without jets and the gunship

- go back to how the unlock system worked in bc 2 with regards to not having to unlock everything for each gun separately, just feels like a chore and makes me want to stick with only the 1 to 2 weapons and reduce the amount of unlocks, imo it is stupid the amount of choice and what makes it even more pointless it that only a few of the unlocks will stand out and be used by the majority just like in BF 3 i.e. heavy barrel + foregrip + either red dot scope or kobra sight

- stick with the current squad perk system in BF 3 but bring more options of squad perks like in bf 4

- go back to how the damage system and vehicle balance was in BC 2, none of this vehicle regen. nonsense etc. and bring back limited ammo (although there looks like there is some form of a timed limited ammo, at least for tanks and their main cannon)

- keep all similar types of gun stats roughly the same so the majority don't use the same weapon the entire time i.e. in BF 3 it is either M16 or M416

Everything else looks great as it is so far......
