1st pc/build, got my bits today

hey guys got my 1st lot of bits today and will be getting the rest in a couple weeks when ive saved up more, the stuff i got today was

my case only come with 1 standoff in the box that was in the hard drive case of the 300R

we are suppose to get a full set of stand offs right?
and my SSD and optical drive came with no leads

will the leads come with the mother board when i buy that? or do i not get leads, or have OC forgot to put them in along with the standoffs

i only ask as i do not know, but will order them on my 2nd and final part of this build if you dont get any standoffs or ssd and optical leads supplied, tbh i feel way out of my depth just with these bits

god knows how im going to get on when i get the rest of the build,

and dam the cpu cooler looks tricky stuff

The leads will come with the motherboard.. So don't worry,

As for the standoff's they could all be with the case.. are you sure they are not in others bags or already installed. This won't be OC's issue it will be corsairs if you don't have enough stand-offs.

The dvd drive is an oem one so no cables will come with that, and ssd's dont usually come with cables , your motherboard will have a copuple of sata cables with it though no doubt.

ah so the SSD and optical leads will come with the motherboard then? this is the one i will be ordering

on the SSD installation instruction it shows a USB connector with a long bit that plugs into the SSD and then the usb end into a usb slot to install the data on the CD that came with it, it also shows a sata lead?

im getting a bit confused now, do i need a sata lead and a power lead for both SSd and optical right?

edit, yes the standoffs are not any where, ive searched 3 times now, in every pack, there not all ready installed, and not in the accessory box

the power leads/connectors will be on the PSU the sata leads should come with the mobo

Problem solved:

First, the motherboard tray is practically a godsend. Corsair doesn't include any motherboard standoffs with the 300R because the tray itself has a single brass stud in the center for lining up the board and then extrusions with mounts built into them

The hard drives secure to the tooless brackets.. No little screw included for them?

just took a picture of the SSD instructions, if u see #1 the funny usb lead it shows to install it? will i be able to install it with a normal sata lead?

just use the power connectors on the psu and the sata leads you get with the mobo

when i got my first SSD i also had one of those things lol....i didnt use it lol

dont be afraid to give it a go.....one step at a time , and take your time, and if you get stuck..there is always the forum here

The 'fuuny USB lead' will be a SATA power lead. In your case, itll connect straight from the PSU to the drive..

Maybe in those instuctions it uses a USB to SATA power connector..

Don't worry yourself.. It is daunting, just watch some "Building a PC" videos and follow the advice.

and of course when you apply the thermal paste ...just use a pea sized "blob" right in the centre on the top of the CPU

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH GUYS!!! i see the power lead that comes from the psu has two power connectors on it which im guessing can power the SSD and the optical from the one lead right?

all ill be doing from now is watching build vids lol

ahh a godsend sounds good lol, i thought that single brass studd was a standoff lol, so the mobo will just slot into that middle one then? i cant see any extrusions with mounts built in tho?

yes the hard drive toolless brackets came with screws

i also got mobo screws and fan screws also

Woah..

That centre stud locates the motherboard and ensure the holes line up with some threaded 'bumps' in the case..

You have everything you need, apart from the motherboard (and stuff that accompanies it).

ah wow how amazing does that sound!!! that was what i was worrying about too not lining up the mobo with the standoffs and shorting it out! the screws i got for the motherboard are not brass tho, but that does not matter then right as the middle brass one is all that is needed to be brass right? then i just screw the motherboard in with the supplied screws the case came with, they are black coated screws by the way

im feeling a lot better now im getting my head around things

edit, but saying that lol the middle one that is suppose to be brass is coated in black like the rest of the case, is that right?

Yeah, that'll just be a protective covering, where the screw threads contact will be brass which is all that matters..

Im glad its starting to make sence, you'll be a pro before you know it.

one thing guys, my 2 sata power leads i got with my corsair psu, one has 2 sata power connectors and the other one has 3, i am planning on using the one with 3 connections to power my 2 HDD's and 1 SSD, and the one with 2 connections on i was planning to power the optical drive with it, but i wont have anything else to take up the 2nd sata power connection, so does it have to be a certain one out of the 2 i plug in to the optical drive, leaving one sata power connection free on the lead?

also do i need different types of sata data leads for HDD's and SSD's? as the HDD's are 3gb/per sec and the SSD is 6gb/per sec?
