Royal Mail to be floated on stock exchange

Nice day today!, 55 minutes late (overtime) and that is jogging around the round and taking shortcuts, none of which we are meant to do!. :)

Over ten miles of of it and way more than should be delivered and they want more on top of that.

I bet 40% was spam as well

At least 70% i would say.

We had 3 spam mails (households we call them) for every single door and no matter how many (spam mails) we have to deliver a week we get the same amount of money.

So if RM can get a load of them they get a lot more money but we get the same and deliver a lot more.

Oh great, so another great british industry due to be *******ised by people who'd sell their mother for a profit. There was no need to privatise royal mail, they provide absolutely excellent service at a low cost - no one else would send a piece of paper accross the country for the price they do.

Now all we have to look forward to is postage prices up, service quality down, postmen paid less, jobs cut (considering they are already overworked to hell) and the only people who win are the rich folk who bought it. And all the while they'll spout nonsense about "how bad it was before".

Another great little scheme by one David "d*ckhead" Cameron and his gang of toffee nosed eton going *******s. Democracy counts for nothing in this country.

And to all those saying it's stuck in the past, they've tried implementing new ways of doing it - for example our local office went out and spent god knows how much on extra vans for rounds which have been walked for decades, and because it's all short trips the vans will be ****ed shortly. So they wanted 2 postmen in a van to do a round spouting claims of efficiency and quicker rounds, it was twice as slow and had a huge cost, often one postman would finish and be sat twiddling his thumbs for half an hour waiting for the other, complete disaster, they've now gone back to the old system, the old methods are the best - technology for the sake of it makes no sense, considering no one else in the country offers a mail service delivering to houses upon houses in damn near every street 6 days a week.
Postmen don't have it easy by any stretch of the imagination, they are constantly told the numbers are dipping when the actual weight (ie. massive increase in parcels) is rising essentially making their rounds longer and harder for no extra money.

The old ways are the best, their back office logistics are excellent - overall they provide a value for money service no one else offers.

Scottish independence: Royal Mail ‘renationalised’

ALEX Salmond today pledged that the Royal Mail would be renationalised in an independent Scotland.

The First Minister has already called on the Coalition Government at Westminster to place a moratorium on the planned £3 billion sell-off until after next year’s referendum.

And the SNP leader told MSPs at Holyrood that if the UK presses ahead with the privatisation - expected within weeks - it would be reversed after a Yes vote next year.

Tory MSP Gavin Brown had called on Mr Salmond to make his position clear at First Minister’s Questions.

“Is there a clear commitment from this First Minister to renationalise - and I emphasise the words renationalise - the Royal Mail?”

Mr Salmond said: “An independent Scotland that I lead - because it will be a decision of the Scottish people - will bring the Royal Mail and the postal service back into public ownership.”

The statement brought rapturous applause from SNP backbenchers in the Scottish Parliament.

Unions have already threatened strike action over the privatisation which is being undertaken despite Royal Mail profits of more than £400 million last year.

The UK Government plans to sell a majority stake in Royal Mail, but it has said it will be flexible about exactly how big the stake will be, depending on market conditions and how much demand there is for the shares.

The Post Office was separated from Royal Mail in 2012 and is not for sale.

Mr Salmond the Conservative-led Coalition is “deeply out of touch” with the feelings of people in rural Scotland.

“The economic impacts of this privatisation are potentially grave,” he said.

“A privatised service will be more concerned with increasing costs of services and could damage Scotland where the Royal Mail is the lifeblood of rural communities.

“Royal Mail is a shared asset which belongs to Scotland as much as the rest of the UK and therefore I’ve written to the Prime Minister asking him to place a moratorium on the sale of the Royal Mail until after next year’s referendum.”

End London Rule and in the same stroke end the fire sale of our vital services that our communities and business rely upon.

Wasn't the Royal Mail set up under Henry the 8th, i.e. an English company? At the very most Scotland could only renationalise the part of the company operating in Scotland.

Bit like Repsols oil assets in Argentina? That would go well. Or I guess he could pay massively over the odds to buy back the shares from private shareholders...

I never see why the answer to everything is to privatise, allow companies to reduce the service to return a profit, but hey. That's just me.
Privitisation means that the company is now a 'for profit' company, hence they are going for large profits. this will mean that they'll try to increase efficiency hence increasing profit margins

I am sure they are all out banned round here in favour of those crappy trolleys.

Are you successfully on van share?

Would that be so bad? I find it remarkable how cheap it is to send letters the entire length of the UK, where they arrive a day or two later. It's just stupidly cheap! A Pound or so wouldn't be so bad, would it?

What's happening with the massive pensions black hole?

unless you're a business.. ebay postage prices will rise etc..

I think you quoted the wrong reply, but yes, we've been on van share for over a year now.

We've had two revisions in that time and the rounds still aren't right. Not far off, but not quite right either as some people are always finishing late & others are always finishing early.

Planners generally don't know **** all
