I just don't see the market for it really, who really sits down and thinks 'I really like my gaming PC but if only it could do less and be more restricted to Valve?'
well I kind of do, my laptop handles all the productivity I can throw at it - so gaming is down to a PC hooked into the TV and an xbox pad.
Indeed, lets face it - it's not like the average gaming PC is exactly bogged down by Windows these days. I'm yet to see any real world comparisons that suggest an identical game on identical hardware is noticeably faster on Linux and there's some stonking Linux builds out there. But given about the only advantage so far would potentially be less overhead from Windows, I just don't see the appeal.
Less functionality, smaller range of games. Excellent, just what I always wanted from a gaming machine![]()
Don't really see this taking off.
I could have a PC with SteamOS under my TV, which means it will (presumably) only be good for gaming and only with games from Valve or I could get one and install Windows 8 on it for the sake of £100 and have a fully functional OS that will play any games, go online, act as a media center, do some work if needed etc.
