ASDA Costume apology.

me because someone said I was a retard and I reported them? should you even be discussing RM openly anyway? what people RM is surely private? it;s like a doctor thinking he can discuss his patients if he gives them colours instead of names?
one is a bloody direct attack on another person.

the other is a costume used in god knows how many slasher horrors not intended to offend anyone.

Hahahahaha, awww poor baby got called a retard.

It's a private forum, not a legally mandated system.

The problem is not with the costume, its with labelling the costume as something that people suffer from, which a very offensive.

Yet it is all this 'thread softly, you'll wake the baby' approach to Mental Health that's causing it to be sigmatised.

It may sound insensitive but it's the 'think of the children' group that's shouting and banging the drums that this suddenly put the work for mental patient down because the outfit is call "Mental Patient".

It's a costume consisting of strape-jacket and fake blood, much like those mental 80s psychotic killers. But no, they have to take it the wrong way just to prove they are just in their cause in the name of protecting 'mental illness' and blaming ASDA/Tesco (and even Amazon) for being insensative.

Should nurses be taking offence when stores also sell slutty/sexy nurse outfits?

Are the outfits labeled "slutty nurse"? Are nurses treated with shocking treatment and stigmatisation because of these kinds of attitudes? Do the outfits add to the treatment and stigmatisation?

As far as mental health being stigmatised because people are being a bit more respectful and aware of it? It's too soft for you eh? That's really really stupid.

I think mental health charities know a bit more about trying to improve attitudes towards mental health than you do.

Do you think people treat people in wheelchairs worse because they don't tip them out of wheelchairs for jokes and fun whilst chanting "hahaha stupid cripple" and are far too soft on the disabled, meaning they are not hardened, and maybe motivated to not be disabled or something?

the type of mental health people getting offended would likely never even see a straight jacket anyway

are you mental health? maybe because I am in fact mental is why I disagree with you because I clearly am mental and do not know what's best for me?

I look totally normal as well you would never know I was mental if you saw me since I don't wear a bloodied straight jacket or carry a cleaver around with me

Hahahahaha, awww poor baby got called a retard.
I like how you make fun of me being mentally ill and find it funny someone called me a retard when he knew I have mental issues in the first place and intended it to hurt as much as possible...

yet are overly defensive on the behalf of people like me because you think we are offended by an outfit based on an 80s movie

So because you don't feel offended, you cant see why anyone else would feel offended by being unfairly characterized and labeled in such a way.

Am I mental health? What?

I am sorry you have mental problems. I am glad you have managed to keep your appearance up.

Overclockers should definitely start selling these for a limited time only. I've been searching for them for the last 5 minutes without success, and I bet I'm not the only one.

I'm serious! This is now THE costume to have for 2013 thanks to all the Twitter nonsense. The margins must be ridiculous too.

yea you wouldn't believe how much of an effort it is to be normal everyday!

I mean it's hard to wake up , take a shower , get dressed , do my hair , straighten my suit , grab my wallet and keys and leave the house like a normal person.

us retards have it so hard.........

seriously are you a troll? you seem like a troll

all the pound shops have likely been hammering at ASDA doors and phone lines all day long :D

I am not saying we should tip wheelchairs, where did that strawman come from?

I'm saying we are tip toeing around what's Mental Illness and what's a costume outfit that's described as 'mental patient' because of the strape-jacket. Next we'll need to sensor words like "Mental" which describes casually as 'outrageous' because it's indirectly offensive to mental patient?

Interesting BBC look at the M-Word

With regards to the nurse outfit:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...=nurse+outfit,aps,272&rh=i:aps,k:nurse outfit
Sexy, naughty whatever. It's only because it's 'common' now, it's come to be acceptable and no one cares. People know the difference between a hospital nurse and a costume nurse. How is this different from an actual mental patient to a costume described as a mental patient because of the accessories it cames with? Oversensitivity and overreaction by groups.

The same group who wants us to openly talk about mental illness but nooo... having a description of "mental patient" is too much, because it's directly describing the person, not in fact describing the costume.

How would you describe this?

CRAZY FROG.
Or should we need to tiptoe around that with just cartoon frog because Crazy sigmatises mentally ill patients to crazy animals that ride around a bike making crazy noises.

Maybe I heard it wrong, but R4 this afternoon said the 25K asda were donating to mind was going to be used to further the campaign to fight the stigma of mental illness.

Way to go.

I think it would have been better spent contributing to actual treatment of patients given the woefully unfit for purpose mental health services in this country. But that's pressure groups for you; promote the agenda....

Yeh, I know they do other stuff to help, but it just came across as a little opportunistically cynical, like 'lets make the most of the media noise and use the money to make more noise'.

I have a generally low opinion of most of the mental health services in the UK, and that includes many of the charities who can only really offer 'advice' and nothing practical. This is all fine if you are just having a bit of a tough time, but those with serious problems never seem to get the help they really need.

Yeaaa who cares right, I'm a big man too, let's give the disabled a kicking together, great fun, love it. Next up let's shout racist abuse at a mosque! Offended?! Who cares, maybe if they didn't like freedom of speech they shouldn't of been born disabled or should go back home to their own country!!

I see that you're offended by my lack of caring about offending people. Perfect. :)

Yea lets bash the mentally disabled, great fun, come on lads!

Lets also bring out an outfit incorporating a wheelchair and call it "crippled retard" shouldn't of been born a sensitive disabled person if they were going to complain about it.

Maybe if they spent more time looking for work instead of being disabled and complaining tax payers money wouldn't have to support them and we could all have our fun.

What's the point in disabled people living anyway if they are just going to ruin everyone else's lives.

Mentally disabled people disgust me even more because I can't see anything wrong with them, they are probably just making it up and should just get over it.

Come on lads! Whaaaaeeeey feels so great to pick on the disabled!

And yet you said?

Lol at your aspie lack of understanding that sometimes, words can have different meanings to their literal dictionary definitions.

I'm not going to cry myself to sleep over being ableist when it is exactly that disorder that presents such disgusting and stupid opinions, especially when the people involved are more than capable of understanding at that level.

Have you changed your tack then and become all friendly to those with mental health issues?
