Gta 5 choppy on the ps3

Bought myself a brand new ps3 super slim yesterday to play gta 5.

So far I'm left abit gutted and am wondering if I have a faulty console or it is something I'm going to have to get used too. To me it feels like the games stuttering, fps lag to an extent. It's worse out doors and when driving around.

I'm coming from PC gaming and have never owned a ps3 before so is my console broke or is this how it's meant to be? Also my drive is making all sorts of noises when playing.

Not noticed any stutter or owt on my front loading slim & GTA5. Only noise it really makes is when it ejects a disc.
See what others say but I think you have a fault.

Same, getting huge variances between smooth and really stuttering/choppy when outside/driving.

My drive constantly seeks as well, every few seconds, and is probably contributing to the stuttering.

The stuttering can seem like extremely low FPS for a few seconds then bounce back up, making driving a bit springy.

It seems to sound like it. I have a second hand rebuilt slim and it has handled the game superbly. I only notice heavy frame rate dips when I go into the sea.

I have a feeling this is no more than a case of playing on PS3 after being used to gaming on pc (I'm assuming at a decent level of detail and performance?). Without more info I would say no fault, that's just how it is. The disc spins like mad on mine as well, all the time (new 500gb slim model) and the game is running at below 30fps WITH framerate dips, no way it can't feel choppy to anyone used to playing on a decent pc.

The game is good enough that it is easily worth the compromise though.

I might reset the system, uninstall some older stuff, can you do a full system restore on the PS3 and then try reinstalling.

Games like skyrim and deus ex work fine on it, perhaps a dodgy install onto the HDD and needs re setting up?

I have an xbox 360 and have the game installed to USB. It's choppy at times. People that say it's running 'flawlessly' probably don't understand how FPS works. Gta V is definitely on the lower end when it comes to FPS. I'd say on average it runs about 30, for perfect smoothness you need a constant 60.

I run a PS3 slim and whilst I can tell it's running low frames and the graphic quality isn't great (no AA makes me cringe) but no FPS significant enough for me to really notice them.

I thought the same when I first loaded it up, almost turned it off and waited for the PC version, it's just a case of being used to PC performance and smooth gameplay, soon stop noticing though when you get into the game! :D

If that was the case, surely everyone would be experiencing it.

Other than when out on the ocean, My game runs fine.
Nope, the framerate doesn't change, what does change is the perception of the framerate from person to person. Being used to higher framerates on pc is a sure fire way to make the game feel choppy in comparison. The only time I've seen it be grind to a halt bad was during a mission where I was on a speedboat and had to shoot other following boats, definite single digit frames for a few moments there.

Everyone will have a different sensitivity level in detecting it or noticing it.

I had issued as had come from the playing on the PC at a rock steady 60fps a few days before picking up GTA. Put in a few solid hours noticed it less and less as my eyes adjusted to it.

Just to be clear, this isn't an excuse to lay into GTA, it's a great game and it's actually an achievement how much they have managed to get out of these consoles. But the framerate is what it is, and while it's possible OP does have a fault, I would say it's as likely if not more so that all we're looking at here is a bit of time needed to adjust to a game played at a lower framerate than what he's used to.

It is very possible for the game to run fine in the eyes of some people, and be a choppy mess in the eyes of others.

Its not exactly surprising it's a bit choppy either :)

Got to marvel at how they managed to get what was a reasonably visually impressive games, huge open world running on such old hardware and tiny ram amount.
