The other shoe thread reminded me of a conversation that I had the other day.

How many miles does a pair of shoes/trainers typically last?

I have never really kept track of this myself and I since I do not do any regular walks/runs I cant backtrack and make an estimate.

I was wondering if anybody else (Say, who did do a regular walk to work or a regular run) might be able to provide an estimate?

(Though I imagine that there will be a very wide variation. Army boots will last a lot longer than Jimmy Choos!:p. So I am really looking for an estimate for "standard" medium priced trainers or medium priced "standard" type shoes (Say, leather uppers/composite sole))

Bought a pair of cross trainer with very good sole back in early July, sole totally wrecked by early Sep. Mind you I do walk a lot. I often even use bike roaster to get an exact mileage, one day I walked 18miles. So..2 months, maybe, 20-100miles a week walking, weigh about 11stone. Not very long really.

Most shoes I've had have lasted a couple of years. Trainers vary a bit depending on make and type, thin soled trainers don't last as long.

So much depends on where you wear them. The industrial carpets in shops/offices are much harder wearing than home carpets and usually much more abrasive too.

My shoes last forever as I only wear them at functions & stuff like that.
Trainers I give them 3-6 months depending on make/how tough they are/how they look etc
Riggers boots last me years though, Last pair lasted easy 10 year & I expect the next pair to last as long.

All depends on how you use them I s'pose.

Once I find a pair of ultra-comfortable shoes... i'll wear em until they litterally fall off my feet. Thing the current pair is at about 5 or 6 years, and not much time left :(
