*** The Official Sony Xperia i1 'Honami' Thread ***

Ok, i had a long play with this the other day in a shop. Thoughts: a bit big, good screen and very fluid performance, but I was shocked how bad the camera was in terms of close-up detail. I took two shots, one at 8MP and one at 20MP and simply zoomed in. The detail when zoomed in is significantly worse than the Galaxy S3 and S4 I tested all side by side)... it looks seriously rough and ropey to the point where details are simply obscured. In comparison to my SIII it looks much worse. very disappointed in that, as I really want the Honami Mini and if it has the same camera then I'm, not overly impressed with it.

as with most devices these days give it time for proper reviews and a few updates to come out.. I'm sure if its that bad then there's simply a firmware issue

Proper reviews are irrelevant... I saw it with my own eyes. As for the software updates, maybe that will do some good, but the S3 and S4 never suffered these issues with the cameras on release. I think it's just a case of overhyping the specs.

samsung is a different kind of manufacturer.. they're probably the only ones who hardly if ever mess up the camera firmware..

htc done it
nokia does it with every device
motorola did it with X
sony did it with Z and Z1

etc.. :eek::confused:

My Z1 going to be returned, whites are cream.

I would bet good money that Sony will be back with a new flagship phone in 6 months which will have slightly upgraded internals and same screen size but be completely slimmed down bezel and weight wise!

I'm pretty sure every Android flagship in 2014 will be nigh on excellent in terms of screen, camera and software performance.

They've all had enough time to improve.

Anyone heard anything about Cyanogenmod for the Z1?
I've had mine less than a day and not even bothered taking it out of the house or removing the plastics as it's a little underwhelming if I'm honest. Either looking at a stock Android experience on it or it's going on eBay!

That doesn't make much sense in the slightest... why did you buy it then?

I like the build quality, the camera and the battery life which is phenomenal compared to my One X, but I hadn't realised just how much better stock Android is to use IMO.
I've no doubt I'll end up with a Nexus 5 at some point, but I said that last year when I got my One X and wanted a Nexus 4 but happily stayed with the One X when an AOSP ROM launched.

The Sony doesn't have too much skinning though (especially vs Samsung etc), right?

Engadget said this in their review:

There isn't a great deal to report in this section. It's the same, neutral Sony skin that has become more familiar without ever inspiring any strong opinions. Its strength lies in getting the basics right -- such as seamlessly accessing local and cloud-stored pics from within the Album app, or providing plentiful opportunities for controlling power consumption -- without distracting too heavily from the cleanliness of stock Android. Depending on your outlook, you'd either call it "gimmick free" or "slightly dull."

Either way surely you can send it back if youve only had it a day?

Out of interest, how do you find the display compared to the One X? It's only 720p but I find the One X screen superb in terms of viewing angles, contrast, colours, etc.

Its the only thing that puts me off the Z1.

I found the Ultra screen better than my Z1's screen.
But the Z1's screen is fine, viewing angles could be better, but it's somewhat of a moot point, it's a phone.

No cooling off period on an upgrade IIRC, but I'll check anyway.

Skin wise it is minimal, but still skinned enough to annoy me. Stock Android just feels so fluid and a little more adult?! I know that's a strange way of explaining it, but stock ICS / Jellybean feels a lot more like a professional OS in terms of UI.

The One X screen is superb I'll admit, which is one of the reasons I haven't upgraded for a while as nothing has really made me think "Wow".
The Z1 screen is bloody good, and the HD samples on the device are the best way of really seeing how much Sony have improved things. Using the UI as an example is terrible and does it no justice as the UI is simply so bland for the most part.
The LG G2 "appears" a lot more vibrant, but I'm not sure whether that's the extra screen estate or the virtually invisible bezels.
