What genre are Sleeping Dogs & Mafia 2??

Hi All.

Would you be able to distinguish which genre Sleeping Dogs/Mafia 2 are?

Its just that I love these games and want to continue to find games just like these.

Sandbox. Except Mafia 2, that'd may as well be linear and level based.

An "open world" game does not necessarily imply a sandbox. In a true "sandbox", the player has tools to modify the world themselves and create how they play

to me games like minecraft are sandbox.

Theres no real aim other than to build , destroy and explore

It's your sandpit and you make whatever you like to have fun

Good point, but I don't think that open world is a genre though.

Just Cause 2 and Red Dead Redemption deserve honourable mentions. RDR is console exclusive, though.

yea it's more of a sub genre which is why they always have a main genre on the end

Not really, but I've never really heard a catchy genre coined for them.

Other than Saboteur you could try Wheelman, not great overall but fun in places.

Perhaps one of the older GTA's? Such as Vice City?

Indeed I did and after a good 3 hours on it last night, I can confirm that it's a decent bit of fun.

Also with the dodgy irish accent and constant stream of swearing its also a good laugh as well.

A code for a downloadable patch entitled "The Midnight Show" was free to those who purchased a new copy of the game for either the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
