Things you did before computers?

Light fires, throw stones, play in empty houses, build huts, play on bikes, go to the library, get threw out of the library, games in the street, watch the Sullivans at lunchtime, catch sticklebacks, newts, caterpillars, collect frogspawn, the list is endless but we had a brilliant time.

I got a silver Raleigh Chopper for Xmas and my parents told me it was very rare. I went out for my first ride on it and bumped into a mate on his silver Raleigh Chopper which was also very rare apparently.

We played football on the green

Water pistol fights in town, especially round the open air market which annoyed everyone.

Go for long walks into the farm fields that surrounded where I lived.

Bottles into the nearby brook and raced them to the finish, throwing stones at each others bottles to try and sink them.

In the summer getting big cardboard boxes from the aforementioned open air market and sliding down a nearby hill on them, usually sliding right into loads of nettles.

Going for long bike rides and always knowing how to get home again.

If kids today had any sense they'd be somewhat jealous of what we older people did when young before computers came along.

My father did my mother - I just hung around in a chaotic realm, no more than primal urge in my parents hormone saturated brains. Eventually after bodily fluids were exchanged between them some sort of recognisable order fell into place and after a few days I entered the world as a potential human, fast forward ~ 9 months and it was only then that the world was blessed/cursed with myself. Computers were alive and well at this time but it was only after I reached the age of ~ 9 years that my parents invested in a ZX81 with 16K Ram Pack and a tape recorder for my educational needs. My recollection of the time was of typing endless data into the damn thing from magazines.... but that was the time of computers by then......

is there anyone alive before computers were invented? they used computers in the war at Bletchley circa 1940

We used to make arrows out of garden canes. These things:

At one end you'd split the cane and slot in two playing cards which you'd fold back to resemble dart flights. Then you'd bind them in place with some string. The other end would be sharpened.

To propel the arrow you'd wind a shoe lace tightly around the cane. The idea was to hold the end of the shoe lace and cane and then to take a run-up and launch the thing. You'd be left holding the shoe lace and the arrow would fly a mighty distance.

That would have been in the late 70's to early 80's.
