***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

How much did you push your FSB? On this boards BIOS I can lock the bus with the GPU on, could only be a setting change.

Returned to a standard 200 FSB. Which board do you have? Mine is the M5A97.

Any idea what the setting is called?

yeah thats fine. But i would still try again with a lower GPU overclock.

Yeh will do. I'll see how runs on the 13.9 driver and if it still craps out run the card at standard. I'll be bloody disappointed if that's the case though :(

Well, run your GPU at stock to see if you can get 4.7GHz stable on the CPU. If you change too much at once you'll never get anywhere.

Oh yeh completely, I'm only changing one thing at a time otherwise it's just guess work. I'm happy to keep the CPU at 4.6Ghz for now, need to get some reliable gaming back. Once I found the source of this driver crash and get some new fans I'll start pushing for 4.8Ghz again, but need to get to the bottom of this first.

I'll run the overclock on the new drivers and see if it comes back, if it does I'll run standard GPU clocks and see how that effects it.

Hi Orch

I notice you are running a 970 chipset board, you might just be reaching the power limits of the VRM's on that board ?

Seeing as 4.8/5Ghz is FX 9590 zone, the recommended chipset board is FX990 as they tend to have more power phases than the lower tier boards.

You may well be right. To be honesr I'm not that fussed on getting 4.8Ghz anymore, just need to get 4.6 stable! Although I may well be tempted to try again when this issue is resolved ;)

I myself am shooting for a 4.7 Ghz with 5Ghz 4 core turbo for 24/7 usage. 4.8 Ghz 24/7 is a wee bit toasty.

Also with all the c states enabled now, it runs a bit cooler.

Also, the proximity of one of the boards heatsinks to the rad probably isn't helping

Don't even have room for a spot fan there unfortunately and no where else to move the H80 to either. God now I'm thinking about a new case :D

Know that feeling, hence me building a water loop yesterday, just in case I got better temps.. I didn't lol so out it came. Waste of time? Probably, Fun ? hell yes!!

Na , I already had the parts, just my time is all. Swore last time I'd never go water again as it's a pain in the butt. Did teach me though the Dark Rock Pro 2 was doing a bloody good job.

Have ordered some IC Diamond just to get those last few degrees off the temps lol

Look at the dust on that! :p

Try to view all of this as fun rather than disappointing if you can't quite get as high as you want. I'm fairly sure if you keep at it you can get 4.7GHz or so if you get the settings right, just rule out the graphics card for now.

I knew someone would comment on the dust :D

Nice shiney new mobo and cooler, but a filthy GPU :D I really need to invest in a can of compressed air!

Having the PC behind the TV in the corner of the room really didn't do it any favours dust wise!
