***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

I would agree your board maybe reaching vrm thermal limits orch 990 motherboard good investment.

Not such a good investment when I've only just bought this bloody 970 :D

I still think I can squeeze more out of it though. That's on hold for now though whilst I sort out this display driver crash and most importantly, work on my case cooling. When I get a chance today I'm gunna do some research on quiet/silent case fans to increase the airflow, been trying to get away not a lot at the moment due to the noise of the corsair fans.

I'm going to get some Noctua fans for the H80 rad so I can hopefully run that full pelt without disturbing the neighbours.

Unfortunately not much I can do with the VRM cooling at the moment, will keep thinking about that though.

Nah not yet mate, I'm gunna use the two corsair fans I take off the H80 as case fans instead, one on the side vent blowing over the GPU, and one on the roof as an exhaust, hopefully that will remove some of the hot air away from the rad. Then control them via the Asus fan xpert so I can set them on a low speed when watching films, browsing etc, but ramp them up whilst gaming.

I'll see how I get on doing that first I think.

I'm struggling my order though, I've got the two noctuas sat in my basket but I'm struggling to press the button on nearly £40 for two fans after all I've spent recently . . hmm :D

Tonight I'm going try out this fan xpert with my two existing case fans and see what's what before ordering I think. I dunno, I may end up just pressing buy before the days up though

Use speed fan tricky to set up but better asus fan xpert is rubbish ask anyone on here I uninstalled it does its own thing grrr.
Either speed fan or buy a fan controller dude. Its an expensive hobby but when its all going well best gaming platform by far

Th0nt components update friend is on hols tried to contact weekend he's back friday so will get him to talk to you.

Excellent - thanks mate!

My own progress rock solid at 4.8 ghz temps are good hit 47 socket 36 core after hours of bf3 prime stable the fan over vrm on mobo a big help and push pull on rad with 4 typhoons keeping everything cool

Really happy for you, I would be well chuffed with that setup - a solid performer.

Cheers m8 yeah cuffed a couple months ago i couldn't get padt 4.5 on air, now under water prime and intek burn test stable at 4.8. Gonna jot down all settings and push for 5ghz now just to see if I can.

Considering im so low on temps and 1.44v I think I can hit 5 no sweat just worried board may not cope that high :s

Hmm have you got the northbridge under water?

I'm gonna have to order a case that would accommodate the H100 (2x120mm fans).

rather than note down seetings, why not just save a profile in the bios?

and i thought the same thing about hitting 5ghz. im only 100mhz away and iv not found any way of getting past 4.9ghz.. VERY frustrating! :D

iv even thought about putting a bag of frozen peas on my rad lol

Is it CPU temps that's the problem? I'd expect your VRMs are struggling - a spot fan on the VRM heatsink might help if so.

What settings are trying? temps? cooling?

All: glad to see everyone's had good progress with the clocks! :)

I'm happy running 5ghz all the time now. Need to look up how to best tune the ram though.

There will be more no doubt.

I'm glad this thread has got people tweaking! It seems loads of people were running under 4.5GHz before, maybe assuming it couldn't go higher.

Sorry didn't get chance to post setting last night, was on playing bf3! All settings on Ultra depending on maps I was getting around 60 - 90fps.

CPU still at 4.9ghz managed to play for a good hour and half no problem.

I guess next to overclock is the 7850...currently running max settings ATI overdrive will let me.

yeah, should be capable of a lot more!

I had a reference 7850, slapped on a gellid icy vision 2 for about £30 and flashed the bios to the best asus one for more volts. I got about 1240/5600 out of mine. I need to get around to selling the thing.

evening all so got home at 5 trying for 5ghz got 4.9 ghz prime stable 1hr stable no voltage increase from 4.8ghz @ 1.44v and look at these temps
