Native 1080p from the next gen consoles?

The new Killzone is meant to be 1080P and 60Fps I think, also 50Gb. :eek:

I've read it is only the multiplayer that is 60fps, the Singleplayer campaign is 30fps due to all the eye candy. I'm guessing visual quality is dropped a bit in multiplayer to give the 60fps.

A lot of games are already confirmed to be running natively at 1080p and a few have been confirmed to be slightly lower & upscaled.

Both consoles have the power for 1080p and 60FPS, but it's down to the developers to use that power. I think it'll be more common as developers get more used to the power that is available to them.

Current consoles have that as well, it's just whether devs chose to use it or use the power elsewhere. I personally think we'll see the same decision this gen, with a lot of games running at 30FPS and lower res but using the power elsewhere.

What is all this bull about 4k TV's? It is exactly double the resolution of 1080p so each pixel will be scaled perfectly to 4 pixels in a 2x2 grid on a 4k display.

I thought it was 4 times?

4K is double the width and height of 1080p

1080p = 1920x1080
4K = 3840x2160

But that leads to 4 times the amount of pixels, 8294400 instead of 2073600. But he also said that a pixel of 1080p will be 4pixels in a 2x2 grid when upscaled to 4K. So yeah it is 4 times in pixels and double the resolution... kinda, it's too early for me :)

Correct

Double the pixels horizontally and vertically so 4x overall

The key point is that 1 1080p pixel converts perfectly into 4 4k pixels, resulting in no loss of picture quality through upscaling.

I think we are going to see a lot of sub 1080p games next-gen at least to start off with. The amount of resources it takes to hit 1080p means a lot has to be cut back. This isn't just the system resources but more the man hours/workforce behind a project which is why some games can hit the 1080p/60fps while others can't because they have a massive studio behind them and access to all of the resources they need.

Also 1080p is just a number when you compare the visuals of games there isn't really that much difference, yes having 1080p is always better as more resolution means more details but if that means developers having to cut back on shaders or have the shaders render at a lower res I think I would prefer a slightly up scaled res.

I think Dice are release BF4 at 720p on next gen just to hit the 60fps mark. They obviously haven't had enough time with the hardware to design around it to hit both the 1080p/60fps sweet spot. Another reason why 1st party developers and their games like Forza for Xbox One and Killzone for PS4 can get more out of the system is because they have had the dev units for longer and have been working much more closely with MS/Sony hardware teams.

I'm pretty sure at one of the gaming conferences they had either a PS4 or an Xbox One hooked up to a 4K TV, and it was meant to look amazing.

Not so sure about that, even on a small monitor (24") at 1080p without AA jaggies are very noticeable, on a large TV jaggies stand out even more.

I wouldn't say they're very noticible on a 24" monitor to be honest but maybe that's just me :p

However even adding a slight bit of AA like 2x for example is not a massive hit in performance and smooths it out pretty well.

I play on a 32" LCD TV and I just can't tell the difference between 720P and 1080P.

I can sure as hell tell the difference between 30fps and 50fps though - I'm more interested in smooth frame rates than seeing 1080P.

I see. Should be O.K if they add a bit of motion blur though. I remember playing the original Crysis at around that back in the day, motion blur made it so much better.

There were a few titles on the current gen which were actually 1080p I can't member which though, if new gen titles still aren't I going to be disappointed but I'll rather them be 60fps first.
