Bioshock Infinite - any good or should I sell my code?

The gameplay wasn't anything special really, as it wasn't much different to Bioshock.

The artistry in the design of the World was really great though, and the storyline was interesting.

To be fair I did playthrough it twice, but that was more to try and understand the story and see the things I missed the first time.

1999 mode was a bit of a bugger in one or two places.

It's a good game but I don't rate it anywhere near as highly as some.

I thought the original Bioshock was a much better game in almost every meaningful way and it wouldn't come close to GOTY in this or any other year.

Play it for the story and to experience the game world if nothing else.

Yes, the combat could be better but I really didn't care much about that because the story and characters were really interesting.

My game of the year. Looking forward to the DLC.

I really enjoyed it, beautiful world and art design, interesting characters and story and the combat though not perfect is more than engaging enough. It's not as good as Bioshock 1 but that frankly was and is a masterpiece.

From what I've seen on this forum most of the people who didn't like it seem to say so because they prefer more "standard" FPS games (perfectly fair) or couldn't follow the plot (not the games fault) or just played it because of the hype when they were never going to like it in the first place due to their own preference for other genres.

The combat in infinite is not perfect, however you aren't supposed to play it like a normal FPS i.e cover hugging, plasmids, skyrails, clothing augments, tears and scenery are available to you for a reason, if you actually make use of them the combat can be incredibly fun (melee focused skyrail builds are hilarious), if you don't I can completely understand why people wouldn't enjoy it, but the same could be said about playing Skyrim and cheating yourself full Daedric armor at level 1, yes you CAN do it but why would you want to?

I thought it was great. Preferred it to Bioshock 1 and 2 personally, much more interesting location for me than underwater, plus less trudging backwards over parts of the level I'd been through. Perhaps GOTY so far for me.

I've skipped it because of what I've heard about the checkpoint system. You might play from 15-30 minutes without getting a checkpoint, and you never know when one will come. That sounds so much worse than even normal checkpoints, where you usually get one every few minutes. Give me control over when I can stop playing without losing progress, please.

Easily the best game I have played in years, but then I value story above all else.

If you prefer pewpewgarglespunkweewee FPS, then you probably won't enjoy BI.

Transitioning to a new area (loading screen) causes a save, so you kinda can.

I wouldn't put myself into any of those categories :)

The combat was okay though rather formulaic after a while. The strange choice to only allow you to carry two weapons at once was quite weird too. People hated that with Duke Nukem Forever so I was kind of surprised when I finally got round to playing Bioshock and it wasn't something people had been moaning about a lot.

The setting paled in comparison to the original Bioshock (I thought 2 was awful), as did the art style.

The story was god--awful, contrived and absurd. I can happily suspend disbelief all day long if a story is well presented and doesn't have so many logic holes (even within it's own convoluted logic) that I can predict the next thing that will happen by simply asking myself "What is the most ridiculously stupid thing that could occur now?".

I am probably 3/4 of the way through this and to be honest I am a bit bored. It follows a simple repetetive formula and I am really struggling to motivate myself to finish it.

Bit of story and dialogue - receive objective.
Head toward objective and kill the bad guys who have suddenly appeared to stop you.
Get to objective and get a bit more story and dialogue. Receive next objective.
Head toward objective and kill the bad guys who have suddenly appeared to stop you.
Fight a boss. Then receive next objective.

Rinse and repeat.

Sure you can try and explore but the game is very linear.

The story line is OK, but nothing magnificent. Voice acting, as always, is superb. The Bioshock games always transport me back to System Shock 2 in that regard.

If you have played Bioshock 1 and 2 then I dont think Infinite will grab you much. I actually preferred the first two. If you have never played a Bioshock game, then maybe give it a try. The gameplay has really not moved on at all, other than the novelty of the sky rails, but their use is as prescribed and linear as the rest of the game.

Overall, for me so far - 5/10.

That's a good summary. I can't fault the voice acting in the game. It's a shame that none of the Bioshocks have come close to the awesomeness of SS2 though.

BuffetSlayer you havent got to the end yet so your review may change.

selling the game isnt worth it now worth about 5 quid. keep and play a modern game.

Yes I accept that, hence

But I really doubt it. I cannot see the game formula massively changing in the last quarter of the game. I play a game as a package. A fairly good story is not going to cut it if the gameplay is repetetive and mediocre. Having played a lot of FPS titles, I cannot say it is an awful game. But it is lacklustre, linear and repetetive. Kind of reminds of Duke Nukem to be honest. The fact that you keep re-visiting the same locations and re-tracing your steps does not help.

They had a chance to do something really different with Infinite - and they decided to do half a job. True - the concept of the environment and the world is interesting, but the gameplay is years old. Nothing new really. It is like playing Bioshock just on new maps.

Actually, I think even the original Bioshock locations/world were far more inspired.

If I had paid full price for it - I would have been very disappointed. But thats just me.
