Origin PC drops AMD graphics options due to feedback, support woes

Gotta love the way that if this was a story about a company ditching Nvidia over the recent alleged issues with the 320.xx drivers then the AMD fanboys would be jumping for joy and defending that companies actions to the hilt. Yet because it's a story about a company ditching AMD due to the higher returns/failure figures, feedback from their own customer support team and feedback from their customers it MUST be some kind of conspiracy funded by Nvidia :P

Haha so true, this place is becoming very anti Nvidia, which ironically makes me like Nvidia more :p

Nvidia ftw :D

Seems to be due to getting more complaints with AMD systems they sell than nvidia. Whether that's the truth or not I guess we'll never know.

This ******** they're part of an Nvidia Battlebox program-designed to crap on 290x launch and specifically because it sounds like EA's Origin!
It's called 'Industrial Espionage' apart from it's not because it's entirely legal. Nvidia buy out a small partner and try and undercut a competitors launch.

This is your precise position. In future please don't try to get more popular by pretending that you are not a stubborn Nvidia fan, who I saw in you from the start. It is very irritating whenever you trying to reason. Because in essence you mean "AMD sucks Nvidia rules and I don't care!!!"

My apologies for being very irritating to you but I do feel I offer some sensible advice at times and don't feel I need to justify myself but again, you are welcome to your opinion. :)

You decide!

Has it occurred to you that maybe they decided to strengthen ties with Nvidia because they knew that their ditching of AMD hardware was likely to upset AMD and that they most likely wanted to see if they could forge a better relationship with Nvidia to help offset that bridge burning?

You should know better than to feed it, just ignore :P

Not trying to hate on Nvidia but anyone who thinks this is has nothing to do with Nvidia is very naive. Let us not forget TechReport and Guru3d techsites highlighted something not long ago. Pcper actually started it, but they denied Nvidia had anything to with their findings. They also forgot to include the part where one of the main problems could be solved. Funny thing is Nvidia's website links to their (pcper') article. ;)

For its part, Nvidia called together several of us in the press last week, got us set up to use FCAT with 4K monitors, and pointed us toward some specific issues with their competition. One the big issues Nvidia emphasized in this context is how Radeons using dual HDMI outputs to drive a 4K display can exhibit vertical tearing right smack in the middle of the screen, where the two tiles meet, because they're not being refreshed in sync. This problem is easy to spot in operation.

Fortunately, you can avoid this problem on Radeons simply by using a single DisplayPort cable and putting the monitor into DisplayPort MST mode. The display is still treated as two tiles, but the two DP streams use the same timing source, and this vertical tearing effect is eliminated.

I figure if you drop thousands of dollars on a 4K gaming setup, you can spring for the best cable config. So one of Nvidia's main points just doesn't resonate with me.

And you've gotta say, it's quite the aggressive move, working to highlight problems with 4K displays just days ahead of your rival's big launch event for a next-gen GPU.

Fast forward to today...

“ORIGIN PC is thrilled to be a strategic partner with NVIDIA and to begin offering our insanely powerful, BattleBox, 4K gaming ready desktops” says Kevin Wasielewski, CEO/Co-Founder of ORIGIN PC. “It’s pretty obvious that 4K gaming is the next logical step for PC Gaming and ORIGIN PC is excited to be on the forefront to deliver the best 4K experience with BattleBox.”

So Origin get paid sponsorship from Nvidia. Note the 4k part.

Three days later...

Origin PC drops AMD graphics options due to feedback, support woes

This decision was based on a combination of many factors including customer experiences, GPU performance/drivers/stability, and requests from our support staff. Based on our 15+ years of experience building and selling award winning high-performance PCs, we strongly feel the best PC gaming experience is on NVIDIA GPUs.

Whatever way you take the article/Origin PC's decision, you have to admit that this does make Nvidia look good and AMD not so.

Edit:

When I look at 8 Packs super awesome systems, I didn't notice he does any with AMD GPU's in them....Just saying ;)

Edit 2:

Please take that as tongue in cheek.

A nobody Desktop pre-biulder? it makes Nvidia look desperate, it tells me they got knocked back by the better ones.

PS: 8 Packs prebuilds are nothing to do with favouritism, don't bother implying that. they will get the R9 290X once they arrive.

lol i agree, ive never heard of them before this
i really dont care what cards they stock, i doubt amd does either
this the kind of stuff that should be caught by spam filters ><

I did say take the last bit as tongue in cheek and of course I fully expect 8 pack to do builds with the 290X in it.

For a moment there I thought you meant 8 pack:

No one with any sense is going to stop stocking AMD cards just before there's a massive sales rush for new graphics cards. The only way you can afford to give up those sales is if someone else is putting money in your pocket to do so.

Or it's costing you more in support calls than the profits they generate.
