This is a tough one..

I need to choose between buying a Dell UltraSharp U3014 30" monitor or two GTX 780's

But I Keep thinking if I do choose to buy the 30" monitor then I want the two GTX 780's for running games on it.. :(

Yes you are going to want both.

You could turn the settings down and run on one card but that defeats the point of getting a high rez monitor in the first place.

keep the dell 27 you have and get the gpu power 1st
Personally go fir the gpu's 1st
The only trouble with this is that GPU's normally need upgrading every 12>18 months where a monitor can last you 4+ years before needing upgrading..

But then again we have 4K monitors around the corner so is it worth spending out £800 to £900 on a new dell 30" now..

Yes you are correct, you'll need both if you want decent frame rates in the latest titles with all the eye candy on. Personally I'd keep the Dell 27" and hold off on the GPU purchase.

It is simply not a great time to buy GPUs, so hold off, see what the new AMD cards perform like and what they do to the nVidia card prices, then make a decision.

I know what your saying I'm still not sure what gpu to buy myself I wanted a gtx 780or an amd 7990 for the money I have but then people have said that maxwell is coming out next year and that's worth it due to the step to 20nm?

Now I will probably settle for a 7970 and upgrade to a better gpu and monitor next year :)

I have the older U3011, and it's one of the best purchases I've made.

Personally, I'd grab the monitor and the cards at a later date :)

Problem with going 2560x1600 and higher is that if like to max games out you'll have have to spend top money for the fastest GPU's every 12 months to stay on top of things

Is going from 27" 1440 - 30" 1600 that big an upgrade? I could understand if you're rocking a 1200/1080p screen, but the picture quality would only be a minimal upgrade? Wouldn't it? (Really dont know, not too clued up on HD+ side of things)

I personally, based on my ignorance of the subject would choose the two cards.
