Is this a queen wasp? (spider)

The exact type of Orb Weaver you consider common probably differs based on geography.

Try European garden spider instead.

I was just going on Stelly's description.

I'm pretty familiar with garden spiders as they've made some pretty awesome webs in my back garden and by the lights near the front door over the years.
I always leave them be and let them get on with it fwiw :)

Not seen one quite like the one in the OP though.

We had a huntsman living on our front door handle for a few days, we used the other door!

Arrgh! Those buggers move too damn quick and can be massive.
I'm sure you've seen the vids that that Aussie guy puts up of the ones in his house?

We have our own around the house ... We leave them be as they eat the other spiders, we had a monster one on our garage door though, god knows where it went :(

For christ sake I hate spiders, why oh why do I always find myself clicking on the links even though I know I don't like what i'm going to see! :(

And these ones are actually harmful(ish)... even worse! .. next we'll have jumping ones!

nothing that me and my flip flop of destiny cannot handle though!

Just googled. Flame thrower required.

Also new pants please

^ Well hot dang, we got ourselves a reader... :p

Put the flamethrowers away gents. False alarm.

Ed: tbh, I think the web was the giveaway.
