£1000 upgrade for next lot of games

Hi all my PC is now starting to get a bit old in the tooth so i want to upgrade for the next lot of games coming out.

first up is those parts that i think could do with an upgrade if required.

tbh, with an i5 2500k, you could just keep it for now and wait and see if the processor requirements change much from the beta games.
the 2500k when oc to 4.8ghz is no slouch either. you're probably making more of a sidegrade than an upgrade.
the only things i'd probably upgrade in ur current pc is the ram (to 8gb), a new graphics card and possibly a new heatsink (to get to the 4.8ghz overclock)
the rest are fine as it is
 
I agree with the above.

Keep the 2500K and board and maybe overclock it to 4.5Ghz if its not overclocked already.

• If you need to buy a fatter heatsink then do so.

Then upgrade the RAM to 8GB (sell the current 4GB kit if you cant find a match)

Buying a new beefier PSU and high-end GFX card (maybe the r9 290X when its available) is what I would do first as an upgrade.

Ether do you ever do non themed rigs :p

I overclock the i5 to 4.0 ghz only so I could go higher I think.

Could someone spec the card, memory, heatsink, and power supply if required for me

I've got a h100i cooling my 2500k and it's running at 4.6 flawlessly! Deffo agree with the others a ram and gpu upgrade will work wonders.

RAM prices are set to rise so buying more now makes sense. I wouldn't bother changing the PSU, that would have made sense if you wanted a mobo that could do dual GPUs as you'd need more wattage. Replace that CX500 when it fails and get a better unit (modular would be nice), if the unit fails in warranty you can sell the "new" replacement to help fund the better one :)

The new AMD R9 280 is a rebadged 7970 so might as well just go with the 7970 which is cheaper, you cop free games too with the AMD GPUs. RAM is colour coded to your mobo and the Matterhorn is a decent midrange heatsink. Forget about trying to put a H100 in the 300R case, if you want a similar cooling equivalent look at the Alpenfohn Mount Doom or Noctua D14 etc. air coolers which are a bit more than the Matterhorn

You wont find a reference 7970 AMD card being sold new these days.

The Asus is clocked higher, uses a better quality PCB and VRMs, the cooler is quieter and cooler.

It also has a great array of display connectors.

The only downside is its three slots thick.

1. There are new ref cards ON THIS WEBSITES SHOP. A ridiculous claim.

2. As if you cant clock any 7970 to 1050 or whatever. VRMs and PCB isnt going to matter unless you do 1600+ on core with LN2 or Dice. Anyone doing this??? Raise their hands???
