Mega textures push Call of Duty: Ghosts on PC to 50GB

Don't shoot the messenger. :D

You know you're getting excited at the prospect of rendering a next gen, highly tessellated dog 4k texture on your titans.

If it looked like this, I want....

But we know it will look like this as it is a COD game...

ooh that castle map is from a modded cod 4 map cant remember what its called though :D does look very nicely done.

Thought I recognised it - remember someone posting WIP shots on the forums - I'd just posted screens on the map I was working on thinking it looked nice then he posted lol.

Having played the BF4 beta I'd take the old idtech 3 engine over frostbite any day - might not look quite as pretty but feels a lot more satisfying to play due to being more fluid and better netcode.

EDIT: Or a better way to put it when playing BF4 I feel like I'm fighting the engine as much as the other players in COD games the basic stuff is a far more seamless layer between me and the game.

just found out what it was called :D

map was called mp_burg . i wonder if they asked the map maker about it ? wouldnt be the first time they stolen stuff :p

50GB seems about right for 4k textures though if you ignore compression and/or progressive textures if you had say 3GB of raw texture data at normal resolution and used versions of the textures with 4x the resolution for 4K so the average jumped from say 512x512 to 2048x2048 the 3GB jumps to 48GB.

lol 50GB textures for old ass engine that still looks naff today, it's like wrapping dog **** in silk. COD died years a go on PC. AMD done good with BF4, Nvidia have got right a stinker with COD on PC.

COD still sells incredibly well on all platforms, it shouldn't but it does because it's like BMW, still living off their old image.
