So the misses PC is going through an overhaul. Going from AMD Phenom II X6 [email protected], 8GB DDR2 PC6400, Asus M4N82 Deluxe, and Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer to MSI X79A-GD45 Plus, 16GB G.Skill Ares 1866MHz DDR3, Intel Core i7 3820 and Antec Kühler 920.

In this process were thinking of what graphics card will suit the system ? it should be fairly powerfull for 1080 gaming and it should be able to run Crysis 2/3, CoDMW3, BioShock 3, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon - she's a FPS player
Also quite important the card should be quit! she has a Fractal Define R3 sound dampened case.

She does have a MSI GTX 660 TwinFrozr OC 2GB card and we did consider SLI, but the price for a newGTX 660 is just too high. The prices now are still the same which we paid for one 1 year ago, and the 2nd hand market the prices are also to high for a used card also.

I guess it kind of depends on your budget (which it sounds like you are quite conscious of).

I would suggest 2nd hand 680 (£200) or 2x 7950 xfire (£300). Both of these suggestions probably cost much more than an additional 2nd 660OC.

At 1080p a 7970 or 280X would handle those games very nicely at max settings. Depending on your budget, you might want to wait until we get more info on the 290 and 290x next week.

Were trying to keep the costs moderate as possible as I manged to get all her new hardware for just £205.

The idea was going for GTX 660 SLi, but it's very hard for me to justify buying a card that costs the same as 1 year ago and a new HD 7950 3GB which is much better is just £20 more.
The 2nd hand market is also charging more for GTX 660 than we feel it's worth.

The Budget is £200 but can be stretched to £250. I am considering HD7970 or R9-280x as max. I know R9-290 is coming, but they will be way out ot budget.

I would vote for 2nd hand, refurb or B-grade 680

That would certainly be an option !. I am keen on trying to get a HD7970 2nd hand or a new R9-280x.

Gibbo hinted somewhere that there might be some deals on ASUS card ths weekend. Might be able to get their 7970s for even more of a bargain than they are now.

By further investigation we've decided to see if we can find yet another GTX 660 card since it's performance seems very good in SLi compared to one GTX 680/HD7970 (R9-280x).

Poor wifey, you've got a 3SLI 780 and wont give her one.

Then I'll need one more too

HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5, thats the most power you will get for £200, and its a lot, 5% less than a 7970.

That's a possibility too. I'll look into that.

Ha, that's what I thought. Why not chuck a 780 her way??
She's not an avid gamer, and she'd rather use the money differently:). That's why I suggested her a cheap upgrade, since I could get that for her.
