Battlefield 4 Thread ~ Server details in opening post ~

no doubt jet people will cry hard if they aren't as over powered in bf3.

I won't cry; most of us will agree that they were overpowered. I think its a tough one though, because it takes allot of time and effort to get good in one, so I guess allot of pilots reason that they should be powerful, game changes even.

I think rocketpods are the issue when I think about it, and also the fact that you could slow down to the point where it was easy to kill infantry with the canon. They should have a specific fighter for that, something like the A-10. The attack jets should be purely for kills jets/helicopters and smashing tanks.

I'm not really sure what to expect; not being able to fly in the beta has meant that I've been having allot of fun ground pounding :D

TBH jets should just be left out of the game! :D :p

The main reason I enjoyed this beta/map so much was because of the lack of jets, ac130 & having the basics as unlocks already, essentially a more simpler game and not having everything crammed in just for the sake of it. It was so much fun being able to fly the helis and not have to worry about jets.

IMO the main problems with jets in bf 3 and what makes them look overpowered:

- spotting system, stupid the way you looked in the general direction of an enemy and hit q and the whole enemy team lights up, easy pickings for any jet pilot that can aim, from the looks of it, this has been addressed, imo though jets shouldn't be able to spot infantry or basic transport stuff like jet skis and quad bikes

- slow speed crawl from above as they unleash their rockets and then finish of with the main cannon

- vehicle regen. (imo shouldn't be in bf 3 or bf 4), as soon as any jet pilot took a bit of damage, they would fly way of out of range and wait for regen.

- some maps, especially for rush game mode having no anti air vehicles at all thus easy mode for jets

- map design, lack of cover from aircraft

But it is very hard to say what jets will be like in bf 4 with all the changes i.e. limited timed ammo, vehicle mobility hit, boats heavily armed etc. IMO the tank and attack heli weren't as much of a problem in this beta/map where as if we had the same vehicle system from bf 3, they would have dominated!

DICE were stupid not to have included a map where you had access to everything especially the Ac130, jets and commander mode as those 3 things are big game changers and could either make or break the game.....

I'll go back to bf 3 for a few matches purely because I don't play any other multiplayer games :( :p Will stick mostly to the CQ and AM servers though!

Yeah I meant when you manually fire the rpg, no lock on :p imo it takes some skill to pull of shots like that especially when they are far away so you should be rewarded with a one hit destroy, soooooo annoying when you see the heli get hit and go on fire and then after a few seconds the fire goes out and it flies of as if nothing had happened!

The lock on is just stupid and should be removed, either that or they might as well just remove the stinger.

Stinger needs to be reworked, should take two to destroy.

I really wish they give us the at4 in the beta, hope they have kept it roughly the same as it was in bc 2! If they have, that will be my weapon of choice!

The RPG will one shot an attack chopper when dumbfired, done it a couple of times.

The transport chopper is stronger though, so it takes 2 rpg's.

And completely disagree about the stinger, it's a complete fire and forget weapon, and it reloads extremely quick. With the 25 second flare cooldown you can get 4 or 5 rockets away before the choppers flares are back up.

I've been piloting a transport chopper when being hit by stinger after stinger, you can't escape because you're almost permanently critically hit, which means no lift and hardly any control.

The launchers in BF4 are based on amount of skill required to use = damage it does. So a dumb fired RPG (the lock on won't be in launch, or it won't be for very long!) does the highest damage, the stinger which is aim + click does the least (or near the least).

There will be plenty of options for taking out choppers in the full game, the sraw that is essentially the at4 from BC2 but with pld lock on, the javelin with pld lock on, the LAW self guided lowest damage launcher with pld lock on, the igla which does more damage than the stinger but needs to be locked on until the rocket hits. Then there's the smaw which has a faster projectile speed and no drop, but less damage than the rpg.

Far too many lock on weapons in the game for my liking personally.

beep beep beep beep beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!

so annoying

Yep.

In BF3 there were 5 launchers: rpg, smaw, javelin, igla and stinger.

In BF4 there are now 7, plus the pick up weapon, so 8 in total. LAW, SRAW, SMAW, RPG, Javelin, igla, stinger, and the pick up HVM II starstreak (sounds like a transformers character!).

So in BF4 air vehicles will have to deal with 6 types of lock on infantry launchers, vs 3. Then of course there's the enemy choppers, jets, mobile AA, tank guided shells, IFV guided shells, boat AA, mobile artillery AA... and .50cals that seem to do huge damage to choppers, miniguns on boats... :(

I don't mind needing 4 stingers to take down a heli in terms of the amount of time, it's more the way you only get enough ammo to kill one helicopter whereas with RPGs you can take 2 or 3 if you use your shots well, and also be effective against ground vehicles. On pubs where ammo resupply is as rare as hen's teeth it's quite annoying at times.

Yup I agree there is going to be far too much to worry about/deal with come the final release, not only will it be a pita for us but it is going to be a pita for DICE to balance and we all know their method, they can't balance in small amounts, instead they will go to the other end of the scale so something will either be OP or completely useless :p :o In about 1 year, they will get it more or less right :p

This is why they should have given us paracel storm with jets, all the weapons + commander mode as they could have implemented changes for a day 1 patch instead of having to wait for a month or whatever it is (PC have to wait for consoles and they like to release the patch on the release day of a new map pack usually)

If the balance is poor come to vehicle and infantry balance, I'll just stick to conquest domination game mode and possibly rush.....

Took an attack chopper down with a dumb fired RPG last night?

The AA on this map on Oblit is stupidly OP. Had one on the US side, drove down to the water from spawn and was able to lock us up on RU side as soon as we took off. The range apparently hasn't been changed from BF3, it's just the map isn't big enough. That and it has four missiles now. Launch one, pilot flares/ECM's. Wait and then fire all three at once. You're pretty much toast.

I can see the locked on RPG's being removed. It doesn't fit with what an RPG is and makes things way to hairy for choppers. I don't want choppers being OP and I think the Ammo changes have really helped. Makes you wary about firing, especially as gunner with the chain gun.

Can't wait for launch now but I can see most servers not having Shanghai on the rotation for a couple of weeks at least. I would have preferred a different map than new game mode.

Patch wise they've said they're happy to have different patch releases for each version this time so PC patches can be released ASAP instead of us having to wait for MS and Sony Certification.

Ah good to hear that!

Was damn annoying that with with bf3! As IIRC, it was like a month delay cause of them!?

TBH, if jets are anything like what they are in bf 3 i.e. a decent pilot in one who makes them "look" OP, I'll probably not bother with helis much, main reason I didn't use them in bf 3 :(

Joystick support and the ommision of the flyby cam view was the main reasons I didn't fly jets in bf3, hopefully I'll be able to hoke out my old Cyborg Ego again! :)

I think they need to take it back to two AA missiles like in BF3, it is way to overpowered as it is.

I think the lock on RPGs are a good thing, more recon player might actually use their laser designators. Although I do with they had brought back the tracking darts from BC2. I used to love hitting helicopters with them and watching the pilot being chased by half a dozen RPGs

Not very impressed by the Beta thus far. Could just be the shanghai map but aside from UI changes felt like I was playing BF3 still.

Will continue giving it a go though and hopefully I will see the light
