i5 750 to AMD 8350 worth it?

Who determined that then?

That was the general consensus reached on the first page, none of us are saying that the 8350 isn't better than an i5 750, if he had no PC or a Core2 or older system then it would be academic. However spending a lot of money to change system and end up with one that isn't even a noticeable improvement unless the game can use >4 cores (hardly any games) is just silly.

That's basically it.

OP could just sell his i5 and upgrade to a i7 on the 1156 socket, overclock it and it would match FX8's gaming performance for just £30 ish extra. That would cost far less (without the need to get new motherboard) and not having to go from one dead socket to another (1156 to AM3+). But no doubt Andy would insist that an overclocked i7 860/870 wouldn't be able to match the overclocked FX8

Only the I7 860 wouldn't match the 8320s gaming performance. The 8320 when used fully can keep up with the 3770k. How on earth is the I7 860 going to do that?

Do you have any hard data to back up what you are advising here? because I've provided more than enough and seen bugger all in return. Stop making such comments without any data to back it up.

As I suspected all along the 83x0 CPUs have higher IPC than the 1156 CPUs. What about that, huh?

So come on, don't tell me, there's another valid truthful reason he should stick to Intel no matter what..

Yeah we did establish that. Now there seems to be a B-grade version of posts coming from another member it's rather childish.

OP needs to feed back what he has done and then we can close the thread.

No they don't, stop misusing terms.
1 core against 1 core, and the FX83's core at the same clock would lose, that'd compare IPC.

EDIT : Oh, I see, you've linked to a naff comparison, because you don't understand.

That's a multi-threaded score.

Did you go to the link?

Sorry I wasn't aware that 4.8ghz was easily achieved on the I7 860. In fact, IIRC you were lucky to get a 4ghz overclock out of one.

You could get 4-4.4GHZ on an i5 750.
And that's a multi-threaded score.

Unless I'm in a parallel universe.

The IPC of PD is roughly around the 45nm Core 2's.

I didn't go to the link originaly, because the IPC is lower with the FX.

When I went to the link? I realised you simply don't understand.

Also, like I say, Cinebench is FPU heavy and that's an old version, the score isn't really favourable to the FX83, it BARELY beats it.

And this changes you being wrong about IPC and not understanding that's a multi-threaded result how?

Which means I er.... Did look at the link.

You're not even moving the goal posts, you're changing the sport.

EDIT : LOL, it has a single threaded (IPC) Cinebench result at the bottom, the i7's winning, did you read your link?

Also, what clock is it comparing them at? As the stock clock of the i7 860 is 2.8GHZ, it has upto 1.6GHZ left in the tank, that's huge.

This is all moot anyway, but the price of a second hand i7 860 is going to cost almost nothing over his i5 (I'm sure you bang the value drum a lot?)

Should've gone to Specsavers?

Why do you keep embarrassing yourself?

That's a multi-threaded result (As I said)

Go lower down the page, it actually has a single threaded result.

I don't think he understands how to actually compare IPC, because he keeps doing it wrong.

And I don't think you know how to read. Because even with it put there in the form of a picture you can't read what it says. I even outlined it in red for you, just to make sure.

Since when was Cinebench unfair to you?

Eh? it says single threaded performance. Below that it says CINEBENCH ETC (1 CORE).

There's not enough facepalm in the world.

That isn't a single threaded result (As it's exceeding every result on the planet by a multitude of 4, that goes for the i7)

Lower down the page, there's an actual single threaded, in the 1.X mark.

The 4GHZ FX83 loses out against the 2.8GHZ i7 core.

Ah yes waiting, the band of PC enthusiasts lol I could but the way my life is right now I couldn't warrant spending over £250+ on an upgrade. An i7 4770k route will cost my almost £400.

I only use my PC for gaming so I'm not fussed about single core performance

Hey elrasho, you could always go with a 4760K / 4770K and grab a cheaper motherboard. I know a lot of people will tell ya to spend ££££ on the mobo', but after a lot of research of Socket 1150, I noticed the cheaper boards are very similar to the higher end and offer overclocking along with the other features. My board 'Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3' was £55 brand new and does 4.6Ghz 4770K with ease. That way you save more money to put towards a quality CPU. Atm 4670K / 4770K all day long over anything else.
