Neighbour asked to scrounge our wifi

Not the cost that would bother me. She could be doing something illegal on it, and it would be traceable to you.

I've told the mrs she can tell the neighbour that we can't do it. If she asks why its because i'm hosting a web/email server and can't risk the server going down. Kind of true, as i'm hosting a friends mums B&b site while he has no internet, not the most important site in the world but she won't know it.

No connection sharing, the mrs saves face in front of new friend. Job done.

I don't think she'd do anything bad with it and i'm always too nice to want to say no to people.

Good lord, you have the backbone of a jelly fish. :p

I hope for your sake she never shacks up with some scummy who looks at kiddy porn behind her back, cos trying not to get tarred by that particular brush will take some sodding effort.

No

I've let a neighbour use ours for a short while when he was between suppliers but I'd known him for several years.

Other option is setup a guest network, lock it right down and limit the bandwidth.......2kb should do :D

That's great OP, but did you find your spine yet?

Real helpful. It's not me that has to tell her, its my girlfriend. I just thought by saying no i was being a complete scrooge. The more i thought about it the more i was second guessing and wanting to be nice, but seeing as 99% of people have the same opinion as i first had i can live with it.

I don't think wanting to see the good in everyone is a bad thing, naive maybe, but not bad. Besides, its a moot point as we've not given her access/an answer yet.

Unfortunately yes. I gave the neighbour internet access, she looked at ways of indoctrinating children to form a wave of sexual-icon suicide bombers and i was shot and killed in a police-seizure 'misfire' incident.

Lol. Cheers for the chuckle!

I shared mine with a housemate back in 2005 (early days of wi-fi) as I knew him quite well, but wouldn't honour it for a neighbour. Said housemate did end up raping my bandwidth with Kazaa, Limewire etc but I soon found out about QoS and limited his bandwidth to half i.e. 2Mbit instead of the 4Mbit that we had back in those days. NTL medium package, £25/month before it became Virgin. I asked for £10/month for his share.

My neighbours lent me their wifi while mine was waiting to be installed. I would return the favour if it was a short term thing.

I wouldn't think of it as a long term solution.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say no.

In reality I'd probably set up a guest network with adult filters and bandwidth restrictions, no p2p etc. Then say you can use it for a month until you get your own sorted. I'd have to know them though and be reasonably confident that they weren't scumbags. You seem to be reasonably confident that she is a scumbag though.

I wouldn't personally as whatever they get up to on your network ultimately falls down to you. :( Who knows what nasty things they could be looking at / downloading!

Set up a transparent proxy and redirect all their requests to the party of lemons page..

Is she bang worthy..

Haha, hell no. I think anyone that would go there would soon find an invite to a future episode of jeremy kyle on the doorstep. Or all their windows smashed in... can't pick which one is worse though!

Finally I can answer your original question then...

HELL NO
