Would you ever trust ordering a food from a takeaway with Food Hygiene Score below 3? Are you even aware of such scoring?

I just found out that my regular Indian place has a score of 1 - nice food though and never had any stomach problems ;)

I used to work in at a Chinese Takeaway.

The mantra of, ignorance is bliss when you order for any takeaway is the only way to enjoy it. Otherwise, cook it yourself. Personally, I lived in through a period of eating hawker food stalls located right next to a stinking storm drain, squarting over a road side with a plate of delicious fried noodles and all. I'm still here, alive and healthy.

my local iceland has a 5.

therefore I think they mean very little.

saw one of the local restaurants getting a meat delivery.

the truck was parked in a back alley with cut's of cows etc hanging there with no protection from the elements as the trucks doors were wide open , flies or anything could have landed on the meat.

I would have expected them to be wrapped in plastic or something?

EDIT:

only brings up the local bowling alley for me :S
iceland isn't even listed yet it has had it's rating in the window for about a year

Our local Indians scored a 0. So we changed, not sure why, as it never made us ill. Just one of those things I guess.

Well, I've just found out the place I ordered a pizza from last night has a hygiene rating of 1!!

Funnily enough, it was the nicest pizza i've had in a while :p

My local Indian takeaway has 5 stars, you can see through the doors into the kitchen when you pick it up and the place is all stainless steel and spotless. The food is utterly fantastic and hygene is all part of caring about the standard of what you are producing.

The best thing is it is no more expensive than anywhere else so I would be very reluctant to go anywhere that wasn't a 5 now.

Remember, this is the score given for food hygiene. A 5/5 Food place may serve the crappiest food but it' got a 5/5 because they know how to separate/store food, clean and shine for the audit.

My local pub has a 1/5, mostly down to the building though looking at the ratings breakdown. Not actually eaten there yet but the food does look good

The indian with the nicest onion bahjis has a 1, still order there ocassionaly. Never made me ill. Im think that uk standards and actual standards needed are teo different things.
Especially after a phone call with them to see whya my kitchen would need to be signed off to prep food in. Sensiable, but it is over the top.

I have a 5/5 shop

You can lose so many points by not keeping logs of temperatures of food and equipment the cleanest shop in the world could still get only 3 out of 5.
generally, knowing what it takes to achieve a 5/5 and keeping up the standards I don't go less than 4.

They mean bugger all, just that someone can tidy up for an inspection.

I eat at a place with 1, they don't obey a few silly rules logging every little thing so they don't get good marks. It doesn't matter to them though, because anyone in the know, knows the quality of food is awesome, they have a regular following, myself included.

I managed before it so I'll manage now, if I like the food and it's not killed me I'll eat there. The first time it kills me I'll stop.
