*****Apple Fall Event 22nd Oct*****

I want 3 things, OS 10.9 public release, specs and prices for Mac Pro, and new Apple Cinema displays(Matte screen pulease).

Not too fussed about the first, but definitely interested in more details about the Mac Pro and displays.

The regular pro, or the retina? Have there been rumours about changes for the pro?

It will be interesting to see what they do here, given they have a good while to look at sales now. As I've said myself, in my working profession, the MacBook Pro suits it better, but it would be nice if it could also have a retina screen on it.

I think the Apple TV is due for a refresh too. I'm looking forward to that and the new full size iPads.

What can a new Apple TV actually offer though?

Current AppleTV is 1080p though, same as it being 1080p on the store

Gen2 was 720p, Gen3 was updated to use 1080p

Just throwing this out there:

I don't think the iPad Mini will get a retina display. I'll tell you why.
The iPad Mini already sells extremely well. It will still sell well without a retina display but updated internals. Most people who buy it don't buy it for the display. They buy it because it's an iPad but cheaper and fits in a small bag.
If the iPad Mini gets a retina display, it will eat in to iPad sales which Apple don't want as the margins are higher on the iPad than the Mini.

Just my 2p but I might be right.

The mini needs a better display - the android devices in a similar form factor have had better displays for quite some time and are substantially cheaper. I don't mind paying a premium for apple hardware provided its decent hardware, if they don't keep up they'll lose customers even faster.

Having said that Apple like to keep something in reserve for each incremental update. If they slapped a hi res display, A7 and touchID in the new mini then they'd have nothing much for the coming iteration.

Does iOS 7 not look rubbish on the low res ipad2/mini screens though?
They need to do something. The screen on the new Nexus7 is brilliant, couldn't imagine paying more for the Apple equivalent and putting up with that screen.

But they aren't losing customers. That's the thing.
The iPad Mini isn't aimed at tech savvy people. How many times have you heard a non-tech person say "I was going to get an iPad Mini but I didn't like the display so I bought a Nexus 7"?

If they updated the internals, added the fingerprint sensor and punted it out as the iPad Mini 2, people would still be queueing up for it.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope that it does get a retina display as then I will buy one.

Yeah I'd agree with that stance.

I know people often talk about Android vs Apple sales figures and market share, but its not quite as clear cut as that. Apple might not have the biggest share of the pie, but they still have a decent share and they market themselves as selling premium products, regardless of whether you feel their premium is lacking compared to what the competition offer.

There is also the fact that so many people are 'locked' into Apple. Thus you won't want to switch to something else, even if it has a better display. The person who does see all the hardware differences is likely to buy where they feel they are getting the best value for their money, rather than sticking to one system.

Just as Rilot says, currently you can buy an iPad Mini, but at the sametime for not much more, you could buy an iPad with a better display. That however hasn't stopped people buying them by the bucketload.

I recently bought a 5S despite looking enviously at the larger screened and cheaper android phones available, the swaying factor being already being invested in the Apple ecosystem. I want a mini for the wife, but I'm not paying the usual apple premium if the hardware is poor, I'd opt for a nexus 7 instead. Once we start heading in that direction it'll make it easier to leave apple for the next lot of phone/tablet upgrades.

I know Apple can pretty much do what they want, so my thinking is irrelevant, but it'd be good to see them pushing decent hardware rather than minor incremental updates.

What's the difference between 'likely' and 'expected' in this case?

Anyhow, hoping for a rMBP refresh at a decent price (:p) because I plan to purchase one soon after the new year.

Thiiiiis.

I want a replacement for my MacBook Pro (looking at an Air) & I want an iMac or a Mac Pro + Apple Display, so this event is really interesting :).

I've come to the conclusion that the gaming PC I've put together is only used for casual gaming (Football Manager & Blizzard games) which can be done on a Mac as well as doing all my work (University) and I use iTunes and apple apps quite a lot on my MacBook Pro, so makes sense to move over to Apple for my desktop too, still will have my PS4 for games as I'm becoming much more casual due to a lack of time.

Can donate my gaming PC to my brother :p, seems a shame as it's barely 3 months old and of a really good spec.

Why does everyone keep saying the iPad mini NEEDS a better screen. It obviously doesn't as it is selling well without having one.

There is a big difference between need and want. People might want but is there a real need to have one. I have a mini and yes it would be great to have a better screen but it is still a great device without a retina screen.

I think they will upgrade the internals and add the finger print scanner and maybe add the gold to the market. This will still get people falling over themselves to buy it.

Remember Apple always needy to have a step to go unto next time and the time after.
