*** League of Legends ***

Found myself at the mercy of the tribunal yesterday. It was quite liberating to see the logs of me raging, and the reasons I was reported.

One of them I literally got reported for saying "easy" at the end of the game.

Gamers are way too sensitive these days, I come from the early days of online competitive gaming where if you wasn't telling people to ask their Mum for your boxer shorts back you were threatening to go prison rules on them in the shower.

Luckily I only got a warning, I have to say though I do miss the old days were you could call a spade a spade without fear of losing your account in a game.

RIP Banter.

Not quite sure that's "banter" though is it? It's quite disrespectful to say "easy" after a win...

I'm probably just a ******* then. I guess I just see it normal in competitive activities to have a friendly pop at the competition.

Hell, even NPCs/BOTs used to do it back the days of UT and Quake, Lol. Different generation I guess, back when it was not only expected but encouraged to have some back n forth.

You only have to check some tribunal cases to see how pathetic the extent of problem is. People are getting banned for calling other people idiots, which if you check the context the person they are calling an idiot more times than not is in fact an idiot.

its a direction violation of the summoner code , point 6:

"While it's alright to celebrate, make sure that you keep any gloating (or any other mode of self-indulgence) out of all chat. Instead, thank your opponents for the game. After all, despite their best efforts, they just made you a very happy person."

and thats point 7:

"Intrinsic to the idea of competition is the notion that, when our pride is on the line, emotions tend to run high. Every person that we encounter is going to carry a different set of circumstances with them into the game, and therefore is going to have a different level of tolerance for frustration. If you end up in a game with an abusive player, don't lower yourself to their level. Instead, politely ask them to calm down."

Rules are rules and they are clear as day with a game like LoL if people dont follow them you get warnings, bans etc. No excuses really.

I'd report you too. Does it mean I'm sensitive? Does it hell. I'm normally banned and/or warned in games I play as I'm a full out grief playing scum bag that loves nothing more than causing trouble and rage to others but in League I'm different and it's the only game I haven't been banned. Don't get me wrong I love a good argument in League but I word stuff so well that it would look like the other person is in the wrong. However I love reporting people who have broken the rules as somewhere down the line when they get banned for a day or a week and they rage I'm part of the cause for their rage.

I hold League in the same light as I do with my Thai Boxing, even if you smash the granny out of someone you still say good fight, it's just the etiquette.

Just played a bit more, and yep, I still suck.

I think my problem is that i push up too much and end up dying a lot. I think my score was something like 4/11/5 just now.

In what lane?

The way I've improved lots recently is by watching better players play the respective character in the respective lane. If you check the streams of the pro's out you'll find a match where you can see where you have been going wrong.

From the very brief description it sounds as though your positioning is out, it's something which you'll improve quite easily though :)

Are you warding? How often do you look at your mini map?

Hilly's advice is sound.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not making excuses. I know that according to the rules I am ban bait.

I'm not refuting the ban. Was just ranting about how wrapped in cotton wool the LoL community is. People scream REPORT if you buy an item they don't agree with for christ sakes. Like the gentleman above alluded to, people use the report system as a form of griefing it's self. Which is only exasperated by the rules.

I mean other games get the balance right, LoL just seems to of gone overboard due to the fact it has the reputation of the worst gaming community. Which quite frankly is justified. Clearly the rules aren't working as almost every game you have people flaming, screaming for reports or trolling.

Dota, for whatever reason, doesn't seem to be AS bad. Then again it has it's own problems.

You are right - people scream report when you've died twice midlane, even though you've warded, asked for the junglers help and been ganked by two people with no SS calls... It's a toxic community who don't appreciate that sometimes, **** just happens. Nobody is allowed a bad game within LoL and somehow every one must be performaning machines where no mistakes are ever made and no skill shots are ever missed etc.

PudWud, Gbay99 on youtube has a few really good videos on things for the newer players to improve on. Like cHK4 says - are yo uwarding, if so are you warding in the right positions? Are you looking at the mini map? If so how often? can you make it once every 5 seconds isntead of the 15seconds? Are you paying attention to your characters health bars on the right? Are you looking at the enemy teams item builds and basing your build around what they are going for - If they are building Armour are you looking for Armour Pen? If they are hitting with you a tonne of magic, have you got magic penetration?

Little things like that, I find Gbays99 videos really good for pointing out the stupidly obvious things in which I just hadn't realised are key. Give them a watch, they're usually only 5-10 minutes long.

Then once you are settled on a character, check some streams out, there's a whole host of youtube videos - just make sure they are from season 3 and as recent as you can really.

The game is so toxic as it is, tbh im glad the rules are there else it would be substantially worse. The game brings out the worst in people more so than in any other game iv played competitively. Whilst with fps you can kinda appreciate when you suck and admit it and not rage, in MOBAs its very easy to blame the rest of your team.

Part of LoL's problem and the reason for the amount of toxicity in the community is once a team has a lead, it's incredibly difficult to overhaul them. The snowball at times is outrageous.

A couple of early kills for bot lane, mid lane or top lane and they can drastically snowball completely out of control and just roll games over.

That inevitably means that any mistake especially early on can drastically alter how the game plays and that's why you get the screaming report kids going wild.

I'm not sure what can be done about this though.

Absolutely agree - and yes I report if someone gives the easy comment though factor in that it's likely to be some snotty nosed kid making the comment.

Got lost in the above - welcome to all the new people, you're all very welcome to come into mumble - people of varying skill and experience in here. Just ping me a message in trust and i'll reply with the password :) Or come into the ocuk chat in game and request it.

I suggest any new people to the thread check the first page of the thread out :)

Did you even have to work for it :p Nice job though ^^ Just got my first Pentakill too :D It was against bots but still, I must at least be doing something right. Got several Quadra kills in a row last game.

I've been trying to get to grips with her in bot games as far as CS'ing goes. I'm just botching it so often early on. Really need to take more care with it.

Also, starting items. Seems the options are Dorans Blade or Boots of Speed. Guessing Dorans is a good one if you've got sustain or if your opponent isn't gonna be able to harass easily? Otherwise take Boots to less at risk?
