Pokemon X and Y - 3DS - Oct 2013

Anyone got any guides on how to setup your moves for pokemon?

I've been adding moves for each type, E.g my greninja has all water moves. I now realise this is wrong. But how do I sort it? What other types of moves do you make a water type learn? Do I only want one water type move (STAB?). Totally, totally confused!

Greninja should learn some dark moves so be sure to learn 1-2 of them. If you can always try to have a decent power move of a different type on every Pokemon to give it more flexibility but I wouldn't worry too much if you end up with all water moves for example.

I must be doing something wrong as i am about 30 hours into this thing and only just done second gym lol

Does anyone have a Yveltal that they're will to trade so I can add it to my dex? I'm close to having all the new pokemon logged in the dex as owned, and that's the only one I can't access easily. I'll trade it straight back as well.

Can all move be retrained? Just am not to sure what move sets I should be aiming for.

I started again after all the good advice also.

Not really to do with natures hated my team and had a female avatar lol. Very happy now caught 3 ralts two males one female. Really wanted a male also.

Wanted the grass starter and now getting the second starter going to pick carefully!

If the game allows trades from other versions after the elite 4, the best way to get the natures you want is to breed them out of female dittos with that nature. My friends were obsessed in older versions of Pokemon. they have a female ditto of each nature, and depending on the Pokemon they wanted to breed, they would select the appropriate ditto. They would then hatch the eggs and pick the best of the bunch to train to 100 (with pokerus (spelling?) to help max EV's)

Ditto are not male or female. Any male pokemon can br33d with a ditto except legendaries . And maybe the odd other l exception. Having a good collection of great iv and mixed nature dittos cwn be so helpful for breeding.

Breeding is the best way to get the best stats pokemon with the right moves.

Thats why I want to transfer my old pokemons to the new X and Y as they have been bred with right nature and IV.

The other best thing about breeding is the ability to transfer moves from one pokemon to a different pokemon who usually cant learn that move from just levelling up.

Like someone has mentioned before the game can be just as swallow as you like but can be as complicated and deep as you like with all the extra strategies and game mechanics. Brill game.

Ya for instance im breeding some magikarps now. So I can breed it with my bagon when it becomes a gyarados and give my bagon the moves dragon dance and hydropump. 2 useful moves it can't learn without breeding with another species who knows it

my best magikarp iv wise is like 30/31/30/6/8/30 and likes to thrash about. This can now father any dragon type and pass down w host of great ivs I'm going to rebreed it tonight for higher special attack.

Breeding Ralts for a modest syncronise Ralts but of course 60 Ralts and 21 different natures later I still don't have one! With legendaries having 3 maxed IVs there's really no way I can justify not making sure it has a suitable nature.

What a troll, modest nature, but trace ability!

Sooooo bred my first shiny last night!!!

Splash splash shiny jolly magikarp!

Sadly its speed iv is about 10. Rest of the litter are all 31 attack/30speed or they get chucked on the gts. Can't believe it got rubbish speed:/

Bonus though I traded a magikarp for a timid kadabra syncroniser! Gonna help later in the game for sure.

I can't believe how stumped I was at this game. It took me 3 hours after finishing the 7th GYM to progress with the story. I facepalmed hard when I figured out what I had to do.

Can anybody explain stats to me?

Like why is speed important etc? What they actually govern.

Havent really played much since Red & Blue so not too clued up in the technical side of the game.

Well.. whichever pokemon is faster hits first. So if you wre quicker you can ko his pokemon before it can hit yours? Subject to move priority like quick attack will hit first even if your opponent is faster.

Higher attack means it deals more damage.

Higher defences the less damage it takes...
