Hangover Prevention

Certain drinks definitely give me a worse hangover than others so I generally try to avoid drinking a lot of those. Ensuring I've had a good meal beforehand so I'm not drinking on an empty stomach and then drinking as much water as possible before going to sleep also help.

What R-evans said is totally true.

Quality of drink has a lot to do with it.

Bad beer or wine contribute massively to a hangover.

Very simple. Some food after drinks, a pint of water and at least one Ibuprofen. Works most times. This is if you are drinking cheap lager and doing shots.

The other way is to stick to a quality drink, with no sugar and do not deviate. Something like Finlandia Vodka and slimline tonic, as long as you can get away with drinking / ordering it when out with the 'lads'.

I'm almost 24 and have never ever had a hangover. My friends on the other hand say that a few slices of dry bread is the best!

Give it time. Until my mid-20s I used to reckon that hangovers were a myth and it was just people being soft, as until then I'd typically just wake/get up really early say 6am with a bit of a headache but nothing major. However as I got older I started getting nausea a lot more the morning after heavy drinking.

Every now and then I can still dodge an expected hangover (i.e. back to the old days of just sleeping much less and a tolerable headache) but sadly I've never been able to pinpoint the cause.

1-2 pints of water and two Tesco Complete multiviamin and multiminerals tablets. I ind it reduce my hangovers by about 75%. That's the best I can hope for at 40 years old. :D

You get a hangover because alcohol dehydrates you. Drink a couple of glasses of water before going out and after coming home. Also don't drink on an empty stomach.

Won't stop you being hungover but should help reduce the effects.

Personally I find that a bacon sandwich and a bag of M&Ms helps.

When avoiding a hangover is an absolute necessity I've found forcing myself to vomit when getting home, followed by 2 pints of water and an ibuprofen then bed..... getting up at least a litre of fresh orange juice and a truly manly fry up! Bacon, sausage, duck eggs, fresh toms, mushrooms, fried onions, hash brown, black pudding and anything else you want!

you don't get a hangover soley due to dehydration as a previous poster has mentioned. It is loss of electrolytes. Someone's already linked the sprite study. Personally I do the ibuprofen thing on occasion. I have noticed though since moving to a mainly fat and protein diet my recovery powers have improved.

Also I agree good drinks like a nice corovousier. I also like micro brewed stuff like brew dog. Still drink enough of anything and you'll be knackered the next day. I am more afraid of my hangovers these days. One because of the pain and two because of losing time with my 2 y old son.
