Just upgraded to 8.1 with the update, but for some reason I can`t re-install Steam. I have tried all the trouble shooting options in Windows but it just says "incompatible program".
Anyone got any ideas?

Im running windows 8.1 with steam and i have no problems.Have you tried uninstalling it then reinstalling it?

Looks like I will have to completely re-install all my games, as it wont let me install to the existing folder. First time this has ever happened.

Rename existing folder to steamold and install steam to the normal steam folder. Start steam let it make its file structures and quit. Copy steamapps from steamold to steam and restart steam.

just rename the steam folder and reinstall then cut the steamapps folder back from old steam and then in steam press each of the games you had installed and it will look for existing files before downloading and it will find that u already have the files

That takes forever when you have around 300 games installed on steam...

I hate having to do this everytime I format C: or upgrade to a later windows OS  (and it even worst as I have all my steam games installed on 2 PC systems :mad:)

I don't normally re-install Steam when re-installing my OS. What's worked for me in the past is simply copying the folder to wherever you want it, deleting clientregistry.blob and running the Steam exe. Steam then updates and sorts everything out.

Who does it all at once? I just play the games as I feel like it and let steam reinstall them as I come to them. Sometimes that means waiting for a big patch, but that beats doing all my games at once!

I have the Steam Library on a separate HDD so if I have to do windows, I just reinstall steam them add the drive where the Steam Library is.

That is what I normally do, but not so with Win 8.1. I have had to re-install all the games. I have also had to do the same for Origin.

After my 8 -> 8.1 update I just simply clicked on my Steam shortcut on my taskbar, and it just worked.

I've also had the same "install" of Steam since July 2008 (and my Steam installer is dated November 2005) - by simply moving the folder and double-clicking on steam.exe - I don't even think I've ever had to delete the clientregistry.blob file either

Why won't it let you? Is it giving you an error?

Have you tried installing Steam, then just download any game and specify the install folder to your old install folder.

I did this the other day and it automatically picked up on all my installed games and put them back in my library all ready to go.

It doesn't as long as you don't start Steam before you move the Steamapps folder.
