State of Decay coming to PC(Steam)

I want to buy this but I've just read this on Steam

Notice: This initial Early Access version of the game REQUIRES a wired Xbox 360 controller or wireless Xbox 360 controller with PC adapter (or compatible 3rd party controller).

Does the new update mean I can use the mouse & keyboard now as there isn't a chance in hell I'm going to play this with a pad.

Keyboard has worked since day one, you just have to look on the forums for the controls and they aren't rebindable at the minute. All interfaces are now mouse compatible and the camera movement has been tuned to be more responsive (although it still has some way to go).

No idea why they decided to not bother letting people know that and stated that you NEED a controller, it's put a lot of people off and now very 3 similar games have been released since this was... I've used keyboard mostly since release.

I got this a couple of hours ago. I wasn't really satisfied with the keyboard and mouse, still feels a bit clunky. Cracking game with a pad though :)

I think that they've ramped up the difficulty in the latest patch aswell, normally I can tackle a horde full on with a sledgehammer and get hit once at the worst, but now I'm nearly dying against 4 or 5 in a house.

Either a much needed patch or I suck ass all of a sudden. :p

I've been enjoying this. I have come across an issue though.

I am about to move safe house and it keeps saying I need more supplies. Where do I get more supplies from? It doesn't tell me what I need to get.

I've heard good things about this game but the lack of proper keyboard and mouse support was putting me off. As I've just got a 360 controller I might now have to look into picking it up.

you can find it all through your diary thing. You need materials and if you dont have enough you can setup so that they alert you when they find some

just purchased this, spent most of my inutial time just exploring around the starting area. Game looks lovely, nice lighting and sound effects. Have only just arrived at my first safe house.

Am i right in understanding that you can switch between the different characters you meet and play as them? But that its a persistant world so if they die thats them gone for good?

Like i say ive played less than an hr so far but it looks very promising to me :) would be epic with some online co-op tho

Yep, you need to swap characters all the time because they get tired and need to sleep/rest etc, and yeah when characters die, they are gone for good.

Its a great game, i really enjoy scavenging together with the zombie apocalypse setting. I would love a game like this but set in a metropolis city, with access to all buildings and street level with underground subways etc, can only hope something like that will come in the future!

Decided to pick up based on the comments in the thread, really enjoying it. Had my concerns before getting it but most of them have been knocked on the head after playing it. I think I made a mistake in building a garden and a library at my first place as now I can't make any more beds for new people.

My current motley band of 15 survivors:

3x blade specialists
2x blunt specialists
3x heavy weapon guys
1x revolver cowboy (need a cowboy hat for this choice of weapon!)
1x rifle cowboy (see above)
1x pistol guy
1x rifle woman
1x auto rifle guy
1x shotgun guy

All at level 7 of their chosen weapon choice pretty well, and gone for the combat endurance perk on all (level 7 perk of cardio). Now it's time to see how many kills I can get before the map is cleaned out of supplies :D

does the game continue when you exit? i mean do they simulate the time between your last session?

Loaded it up today to find 2 of my survivors injured, one in a shooting accident lol.

Yes the world is persistent. Although I believe after 24 hours (or real time) the in-game time slows down so that it stops too much happening if you don't play it for a while - otherwise you could come back a week later to find everyone dead

I really need to do this, I have a bad habit of just sticking to 2 people, and when they die.. well we're all screwed

Really enjoying this, although I am still using the initial base and only 8 people.. its a lot of work to stay on top of everything.

I am now stuck on the Wilkersons quest line
to Drive Sam (the injured dude) Home.. the location is not showing on the map.. anyone remember where to take him? cheers

edit: i went back again to the Wilkersons place and the location then came up.. ill try it now :)

I'm really struggling to get into this after a few days (12 hours worth of play)

For some unknown reason it's just not grabbing me which is really weird as it's got everything in there that should make me like it.

I'll give it a few more days before I click the uninstall button.
