Civilization V

I knew it was a good idea to wait a couple of months, dropped 50% in price already. Looking good for a cheap pickup on steam christmas sales.

Still really enjoying my playthrough on G&Ks, for once I actually see myself finishing this game!

Me and two friends are doing exactly the same. Picked up CIV:V Gold + G & K for around £7.49, hopefully pick BNW up for £4.99.
 
Been hanging off playing this one until i get BNW as I heard it adds quite a lot of good ideas.

As mentioned above hopefully pick up a deal in the run up to Christmas. I have plenty to keep me going just now as it is :)
 
damn BNW is awesome, adds to much more to the game than vanilla, Was playing late last night for hours!

Im currently trying to get a religion victory as Skihism and i'm in a faith war with Islam - pretty hilarious just constantly bombarding them with mercenaries.

A question though, I purchased the Inquisitor (faith remover) went to a neighbouring city on an adjacent hex and it wouldnt let me do anything??!? what am I missing?!

Also why do you become a war monger by taking out one city? (they were in the way so I decided to kill them rofl)

and lastly, what are the conditions to reach each age? is it a percentage of tech researched or something more?

It really does make the game much better, the trade routes etc are a great addition (until yours get wiped out!)

1)Those are for removing religion from your own cities only. So if an AI missionary has spread to your city or a religion has slowly grown that isn't your own you can use those guys to remove.

2)Yeah the war monger thing seemed a little OTT. Depends on the personality of the AI in question on how much they'll hate you for it.

3)Not sure on that one actually! Never really thought about it. It's obviously based on research but not sure on the actual conditions...
 
If you want to kill off an enemy religion you have to take the holy city and use an inquisitor to purge their religion, then as quickly as you can spread prophets around to spread your own religion to the point where the religious pressure favours your religion.

It's difficult and I've had a hard time killing off the spanish religion in my game, but now that the spanish have been killed themselves it should be easier :D

EDIT: Oh yea, and unless it changed in BNW you advance an age as soon as you research a tech in that age.

whats the point of religion if you have to go to war to purge anyway?
can you not just flood your cities with faith buildings and followers allowing greater spread, and then support this with mercenaries and great believers to the holy cities :confused:
 
I thought a holy city will always output a base amount of its own faith? I didn't know you could stop this happening...
 
So I just read the wiki and they didnt put a religious victory in the game? WTF..... God thats annoying.
Im just going to go to war with everyone now and make sure they follow my religion. :pi might switch to tourism victory but might be too late now as im in the early 1000AD

Holy Warriors + reformation belief for buying Industrial Era units with faith = Domination victory.

Jesuit Education = Science victory.

Reformation belief that gives Tourism for faith-bought buildings = Culture victory.

The only victory you can't get so easily without focusing hard on religion is Diplomatic, and even then Papal Primacy is a huge help.
 
The new patch makes quite a difference to gameplay.

I started a war very early as the Romans dumped a city right next to my cap, so I sacked the city and tried to make peace. The whole world DOW'd me immediately! :eek: Even 1000 years later and not a single Civ will deal with me saying I'm a blood thirsty warmonger!! This is playing on Immortal.

When you're really really first starting out, especially if you're totally new to Civ it may be an idea to start on one of the easiest difficulties and just generally mess around... Listen to the advisors and just do what they suggest to get a feel for the mechanics of the game

Prince is considered by most to be the "Standard" difficulty, so aim for that once you want to start playing proper, and then step up to King - the difficulty seems to jump up every couple of levels, with King being the first major jump in difficulty (it's the first setting I believe where the A.I actually gets bonuses that give them a big advantage)

Best quick tip I can think of - focus on luxury resources, research whatever you need to research to take advantage of the luxuries you have within your city areas, and when you have multiple sources of a particular luxury look to try and trade it with another Civ for a luxury that you don't currently have - each luxury (imported or otherwise) will net you +4 happiness which goes a long way to keeping your Civ running smoothly

Why on earth would you be playing on Prince if you have never played the game before? Madness.....
Play on an easy setting , get used to the mechanics, figure out what's optimal and what not and then up the difficulty.

Prince is the default difficulty where the AI and the player start level. If you have a background in Civ games it's a good place to start.
