780 or 290x

The 780 already plays the game perfectly on Ultra, with better drivers and patches from EA/Dice to come you won't see any issues. Are you using a 60hz monitor?

There are some very good deals on cards at the moment, definitely a buyers market :)

However, the AMD 290 being released may once again shake things up. Might be worth waiting a few days (maybe).

If you are purely buying for BF4... then I'd go 290/290X, if the 780 is enough, then see my first paragraph :-D

Was planning to buy this week got new bundle coming this week and at the moment 580gtx is struggling on medium setting with 100% res scaleing

Honestly, you need to step back a bit if you want a good deal. One retailer had a R9 290X card on special offer at under £400,and it was a better OEM too.

The R9 290 and GTX780TI are yet to be released, and that will mean further price adjustments.

My 7970 is having no issues with BF4 ultra settings. Runs constantly smooth at 1080p 60Hz. Tbh I cannot tell the difference at 1080p over my 290x.

Not really sure a 290x or even 780 is really needed for 1080p. 1440p will see more of a difference.

I would hang on and see how cheap the 290 is before buying.

True audio and support out the box for DX11.2 are also worth a mention. They are great selling points on the 290 series.

is kepler not compatible with DX11.2? I thought any decimal iteration of DX would be supported by cards that supported its base so in this case any card that supports 11 will support 11.2? I could be wrong but I hope not :(

DX11.1 and 11.2 is different to DX11

Kepler supports most of DX 11.1, all the most important bits i think, just not officially as its not "full support"

DX11.2, i don't know, there may be some support, what or how extensive. i don't know.

What Humbug said.

I personally don't care, as I remember dx10.1 bringing so much to us gamers

780's can be had for under £365 with the games if you shop around.

This, however was not even aware that AMD 290 cards were due to come out. I believe this is the card that will price and place itself against the 780gtx. In fact it should really cost £300-330 if not less hopefully!

Do you need to buy now it seems to me to be sensible just to wait 3 to 4 weeks as then we should have and idea about mantle / 290x prices + third party coolers. And more importantly i would expect the 290 to beat out the 780 in BF4 for a much cheaper price. Mind you is BF4 your only concern ?

But if you are buying this very moment and cannot possible wait I would agree perhaps 780 would be best choice.

It was never allowed to bring anything to the table because nvidia had no support for it. When dx 10.1 was used properly it gave amd a 20% performance boost. Times have changed though and i feel Amd have more power over developers than what they used to and Nvidia have less than they used to.

Ah I see, well I hope it wont be anything major after spending so much money on this GPU. Man it is hard to keep up. Last night I tried Metro Last Light on full at 1440p and got like 19fps, maybe time for a second 780 :( lol
