Hi All,

Firstly a massive thanks to Overclockers for shipping all my friend and colleague's hardware over the weekend to him at work, it all arrived today exactly as expected and with complimentary Haribo thrown in!

Secondly, thanks to my friend himself for putting his hard-earned hardware in my hands and trusting me to build it. It's my first ever build and so I'm very grateful for the opportunity to do this for him.

The rig is built, and powered up fine this evening. No OS installed yet but the computer ran for 10 minutes with everything fired up so I'm happy it's all working and I haven't shorted anything out.

I am however, in a spot of bother with some of the cabling, and could use some assistance from some of the seasoned folks here at overclockers!

The spec:

Aerocool Cyborg X
MSI Z87-G45 motherboard
Gigabyte GTX 760
Corsair Hydro H80
Akasa Venon 550w PSU
Samsung 120GB SSD
Haswell i5-4670k

And the problems:

1) The Corsair Hydro H80 has been installed with only one of the fans that came supplied with the unit, the fan on the rear of the case has a red LED so I wanted to keep that on. I have installed the unit but now have the 2 fan cables with I've plugged into the pump unit, and 2 molar cables. The cable from the pump Itself I've connected to the motherboard under CPU fan1, is this correct??

2) The GTX 760 has a 6pin and an 8pin power connection, do I need to connect the PSU to both? that's 2 separate leads from PSU to Graphics card, is that required?

3) I have a whole bunch of leftover cables from the case itself that I have no idea where to plug in. I located the power switch input (hence I was able to power the system) but am unsure how to connect the rest, is their a particular methodology for how I should connect fans, should I be connecting them directly to the PSU with molar or somewhere on the MBoard? And if the latter, the cables have 6 pin holes, the pins on the motherboad are arranged in 8's?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm taking it apart tomorrow to sort cable management and would like a clear idea of how to finish up before installing the OS and running the overclock. Thanks in advance!

1/ Not having used one I would guess its right. I would suggest you run either both of the supplied fans or none of the supplied fans as they are a matched pair so to speak while the red one and the corsair will operate at different speeds/pressures and this can be counter productive.

2/ yes both need to be connected up to the PSU. If you dont its likely to crash when you game with it.

3/ at a guess you have Top I/O ports – 2 x USBs, Audio/Mic (AC 97 + HD audio) and E-SATA ports spare. Unless your going to use them (most likely the USB) just cable tie them out of the way and forget them.

Hope this helps

I'd advise using both the H80 fans. The fan with the case will be worse than the stock fans provided with the H80.

The 3 pin from the pump can be plugged into to a CPU fan header though it needs to be a 100% fan header, most motherboards have two fan headers, one above the CPU socket and one just above the first PCI-E slot..

IIRC the one above the PCI-E slot runs at 100% where as the other one doesn't..

Though i just plugged my H50 pump connector into the PSU (using a molex to 3 pin adapter)

Yes! :)

They be your Power LED, reset LED, front mounted audio and USB..

Check you're mothernboard manual for what cable goes where..
