Scenario

You meet a very pretty blonde with great skin and a great personality, you're a perfect match...for now.

Then you notice her mom is haggard, terrible skin, double belly and cankles, she looks 60 yet she's 47....

Would this be a cause for concern for those of you looking long term?



Well for me, a little. I'd go in with an open mind and hope I mushroom too to the point where I can't really do any better! :p

Other than that, I'd go with basing a relationship on love rather than the physical aspects of my partner's parents.

It wouldn't bother me. My girlfriend is beautiful and will always be, to me. She's clearly a mix of her parents, and environmental factors will certainly be more important.

While they will share some genetic similarities, your girlfriend has genetic material from another person (her father) which will also affect your girlfriend as she ages.

That said, her lifestyle and environment will shape and affect her in a more drastic way and I would personally be content with what I had (if I was happy and attracted to her) rather than use what might be to define whether I should continue a relationship. Otherwise why stop there? What if your girlfriend loses a limb, or contracts a disease, or suffers irreversible damage to her body? Would you drop her because she no longer possesses the physical qualities you currently admire?

Physical attraction is traditionally an initiator to coupling, and then recedes to a statement of power/achievement as well as sexuality/intimacy - while personal connections (intelligence, interests, personality, etc) tend to form the solid foundation of a relationship. Unless you're only interested in ********* her, in which case the latter is moot.
 
Print off a life-size photo of her Mum's face and make a mask out of it. Next time you're making love to your girlfriend ask her to wear the mask, if you can do the deed without bursting out laughing, puking or going limp then you know everything will be fine in the future, your girlfriend will think this is a bit odd so just surprise her with it, if she really loves you, she'll understand.
 
Don't worry op, the relationship wont last long enough for you to see her get old anyway.
