I built this rig a few months ago, mid july, and its been working perfectly (Aside from the case lights went a few days in and BitFenx wont respond to emails).

MSI GeForce GTX 780 PCI-Express 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor
Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Bitfenix Colossus Venom Green LED Big Tower Windowed Case
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TD120BW)
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz
XFX Pro 650W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme Performance

Then yesterday when i went to turn it on it wouldn't work. The fans spin and everything lights up for about half a second then it all shuts off again. I took it entirely apart, made sure it wasn't in contact with anything shorting it out and put it back, Same problem.
So now I've taken everything off and just have the CPU and heatsink, with the psu and it still wont boot. I tried my old PSU and the same issue happens so i don't think its the PSU. I dont have another motherboard that will work with my cpu though to check if its the mobo or the cpu.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you tried to boot with the components out of the case? (mobo on a safe surface, connect only bare minimum components and try to boot)
Have you tried the CPU - out and reseated, are there any bent pins/TIM on the contacts?
Have you got the 4/6/8 pin power connector connected to the mobo? (normally around the top left of the mobo)

Yeh i laid the mobo on an anti-static bag, connected the CPU and heatsink then tried my PSU and a spare PSU. Same issue.

No bent pins i can see, the cpu hasnt been taken out since i constructed the computer about 3 months ago.

Yehh its deffinitely connected, the board powers up for a second but then turns off. So its recieving power but doesn't like something i guess.

Since both PSU's have the same effect im guessing the problem is with the motherboard or CPU since those are the only things left. Haven't got a way to test them though since i dont have another compatible board / CPU.

Just weird that it worked for ages then randomly decided it wouldnt start.

Sounds like a VRM's popped tbh ; Faulty motherboard.

Those were my exact symptoms when I blew a GD65.

Are gigabyte likely to RMA it? Its only a couple of months old and i hadn't touched the board for about a month when it happened so as far as i know nothing I've done has caused it.

You shouldn't have any problems with an RMA.
I assume you bought it from OCUK? Just pop them a message in the CS section, Bailey will raise the RMA.

You could go direct to Gigabyte, but I've always used E-tailers.

Awesome cheers. I'll do that now. Any idea how long it usually takes for them to test it and replace it?

Depends entirely how busy they are, and the policy in place with that Manufacturer/supplier.

What you could do is inquire about sending both back for them to test as one's faulty (They may give you a testing fee if you were to send them both back, you'd really have to ask)

I'm confident it's the motherboard, but there's always the chance it's not.

Where'd you live exactly? Perhaps another member has a CPU/Motherboard kicking about to help test.

Cheers, I've sent an RMA to them now and will hopefully hear back soon.

I live in Southampton at the university. All my mates here have 1155 boards so cant check with them but if anyone else lives near by that'd be great. There is a PC repair shop down the road but its a large chain one so i expect they'd charge me a stupid amount to test my CPU in their rig.

Slight update, it occured to me to try running the board without the cpu in it. When i do this, the board boots and then restarts repeatedly (Assuming it cant find the cpu) instead of instantly cutting out.

I also rechecked the bottom of the cpu and there is a connection in the middle that looks almost burned. Not a clue how this could have happened though since my system isnt overclocked or anything...
