More than likely, and yes unless its the same chipset but even then fresh will ensure you experience less issues.
 
Kinda thinking it might be an expensive upgrade, Meaning Better motherboard Asus Crosshair, Better ram, currently running Corsair Xms 8Gb, a new copy of windows... should have bought a good board off the bat :(

I was also on a crappy 4+1 board, it throttled at under 4.0ghz. I think a lot of the guys ran asus 970 evos - it has 6+2 phases and good cooling. The 990fx version also has dual pcie2x16 slots for xfire / sli.

If you have the cooling and the cash you could go for a sabertooth and if you want the very best the crosshair formula z. Which board you go for is probably down to your cpu cooling and ventilation. If you only have a cheap cooler then it's pointless spending £150+ on a fancy mobo that you will never make use of

I wouldn't use any "one click" overclocking, you'll get much more stable and much less hot results with simple manual tweaks. This video is pretty decent to give you the initial settings:

I've been testing a bit with my 4770K (sorry :p). I found with Metro 2033, which is stupidly hard on CPU/GPUs, on Windows 8 an i5 couldn't provide stutter free performance at all, it was pretty bad. An i7 was fine. In Windows 7, even the i7 at 4.5GHz gave stuttering. The fix was the core unpark thing. This seems to reflect the same as the 8320/50.
 
Alright chaps. I am thinking of pulling the trigger on an 8 series. I've got a Phenom 965BE at the moment & have a Sabertooth 990FX (Rev1) mobo with the latest BIOS update, so it will drop straight in.

Anyone know if there are any reported problems with the Rev1 board and the 8 series chips?

Also, is the 8350 worth the extra £££. I've got a cood cooler already.

The i5's with some later engines and Multi-GPU's seem to get confused, it's like it's brain damaged, and this results to some pretty poor end user experience.

Single GPU it's fine.

I think it needs looking into tbh, it's why I'm somewhat worried to get a second 7970.

Was that a 4670K you used Teppic?

I've no idea on the board. You'll need to do your homework. There is no real benefit to buying the 8350. At best you will get 100mhz or so more than the 8320, but day to day clocks they will be pretty much identical unless you completely lose the lottery.

Yeah, I tested with the same PC but with a 4670K at 4.5GHz and a 4770K at 4.5GHz. On the i5 the game got high FPS but the stuttering made it unplayable for me - I took a benchmark here:

Good choice Papa. Don't know about Rev 1 vs Rev 2 but I would go for an 8320 over the 8350 as they are essentially the same with just different base/boost clocks.

When I was dipping into some reviewing, I remember having two GTX680's which I used in SLI in the original Metro, I can't remember what I ran them off, I think it was my 2500K, I did have a 3770K but I think I did 7970 Crossfire on it.

I'm adamant it was the 2500K, and I remember the stuttering, it wasn't game breaking, but it was pretty poor.

I didn't formally test this myself with any monitoring/fraps software but when I had a 2500k (at 4.8 GHz) with SLI GTX670s, it would stutter horribly at random times in Metro 2033 at 1080p. Also did it in wow in raids on boss fights. Was very annoying and resulted in me getting rid of the i5 and the 670s. At the time I put it down to GPU drivers. Have to say I didn't test a single GTX670 with it.

Talking of Core unparking, do you think this is worth giving a go before i buy a new motherboard to stop my CPU spiking issue? Im basically getting 100% usage for a couple of seconds causing BF3, BF4 to lock up and drop to 1fps. all resumes after about 5 seconds.

If so, how do i do it safely/effectively?

This was all done on the latest drivers, tested on both Windows 8 and 7 - can say for sure it's the CPU not coping with the engine since the i7 was stutter free. I didn't physically remove one of the 670s, but I definitely tested with SLI disabled to try to rule that out. LtMatt also posted some results which were stutter free on his i7 2700K combined with 2x7950s.

I know that Metro 2033 is a game that will use 8 threads, and as with the 8320/50s, running the core unpark on Windows 7 had a very definite effect on performance. On Windows 8 out of the box the game ran fine on the i7, again in line with 8320/50s as far as I can see.
 
There are 2 hot fixes available on the Microsoft website. You need win7 sp1 installed for them to install.

I don't think it will help, but you could try declocking your CPU to 3.5ghz and see if lockups still happen. You'll pose loads of fps but it may indicate if throttling is occurring. Also keep cpuz open while gaming and see if the clockspeed drops off under load
