What's happening on the 14th like?

I use music channels for music in the home. Don't stream movies to pc but I have plex on tablets and phones. Never used an external hard drive apart from backing it up to transfer consoles.

I don't even use my ps3 for anything other than playing ps3 games.

I would prefer they got rid of more tbh to focus on gaming.

Psn home for instance has been complete fail. Would rather that money and time was invested elsewhere.

I used my PS3 heavily for these features until it was replaced with a media centre. Sony themselves have constantly mentioned about how much the PS3 was used for this functionality so I can only guess this stuff is coming but not ready yet.

Personally I haven't used any of those features on my Playstation 3, I can't imagine the external USB drives won't be patched in, how else would you back your data up?

This is a pain. I was hoping it would play mkvs from a NAS. Will it have the likes of Netflix and iPlayer at launch?

I would imagine so, Sony have really prided themselves on the whole Netflix partnership, I think they also said that the Playstation 3 is the most popular living room device for streaming Netflix so it'd be hard to imagine them not having a Netflix app ready for the Playstation 4 launch. Not sure about iPlayer, I can't see any reason why there wouldn't be something ready for launch other than the BBC are incredibly lazy. The Playstation 3 app was plagued with problems, last time I used it was when their updates to the app were actually make it worse than it was pre-patch.

sony's stance on MKV is pretty clear; they dont support it. The ps3 never played them, their bluray players dont support it, their tv's dont support it.

Sony dont do MKV. The likelyhood of the ps4 supporting it...well, it's not likely.

I use DVDs, Netflix and Lovefilm to watch movies

I have no use for an external HDD.

I don't use consoles to listen to music.

That's just me.

This is nonsense. MP3 support as well as a few other token features would not take away at all from the core game play experience. It's such a small inclusion that it makes no sense for them to permanently not include it.

I fully expect that it'll be similar to the Vita's release, they release the console with core functionality, ie, games and playing them, and then add in additional features with new updates.

It also gives people an incentive to update their firmware too, which is important if security holes are found in the OSes.

It's easy enough to play MVKs on PS3 anyway if you wanted to, well it's in effect playing them even if it's not direct.
