Does this motherboard and processor work together?

Hi im looking at a MB and a CPU and i dont know if they will work together. Please can somebody tell me.
MB : Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Motherboard
CPU : AMD Athlon II X4 641

the CPU support list for that board does say the Athlon IIX4 640 and 645 (there is no 641 CPU) are listed with BIOS 0204

If its not on the list then it doesn't look hopeful.

Yes, there are certain Athlon II X4 listed, but not that particular CPU.

It will either work or not work.

Do you have these parts already? there might be better options if you are buying the pair together.

Yes the parts have already been bought. (I was not the one buying them i just put a basic spec list together so the person could get the idea for the price, I wasnt expecting them to order it right away...) They have not arrived yet.

Do you have a backup CPU just in case?

No i dont have a backup CPU. How will i work out if it is the CPU that the problem and not the MB or something else.

You can always return stuff under distance selling if it doesn't work.

It shouldn't work, the Athlon X 4 641 is a Llano based chip, on the FM1 socket..

You have picked A AM3+ motherboard...

Its down to AMD's silly naming.

You cant really.

The board may seem to power up with the fans spinning but no other activity.

It may not do anything at all when you power it on.

It may work perfectly as the CPU is supported but just not listed on the CPU support list.
