Quiet/Silent Movement Watches

A bit of an odd one here, but might anyone have a recommendation for a (preferably) silent analogue watch?

I have various digital watches (some are very smart) but I feel that the analogue watch is the timepiece that looks the smartest when the occasion calls for it.

My preferences are perhaps slightly fussy, as I have excellent hearing and the sound of 'ticking' really annoys me. Budget isn't that much of a concern, but I appreciate that the more expensive models will likely have the better quality movements.

So, over to our connoisseurs - what would thou recommend?
 
Where do you work that is quiet enough to hear the ticking?? I can only hear mine if it's on the bed side table next to my head, and to combat that I just put in on the dresser a bit further away. That is only time I would have thought anyone without superhuman hearing could here a mechanical watch.

If it is a problem why not get a battery watch that is analogue?

Just seen your budget is rather open, I have a rolex datejust and an explorer 2 both are very quiet, and if you listen very carefully up close you can make out very faint rapid ticks/ping. Timekeeping wise my datejust is a bit crap and always has been despite services it is in tolerances apparently but the explorer 2 is bang on.

They will last your entire lifetime, and probably much longer.

Looks wise it's a bit bling but as far as watches go it' appears to be a fine watch? What's wrong with it otherwise?

Have you (OP) heard an automatic watch? A quartz mechanical ticking is annoying in the long run, an automatic sound is much more relaxing as sound is less direct, more constant and more mechanical.

Do a search for Henry Graves Jr and his Patek Philippe pocket watch if you want to find out about the type of person who buys truly expensive watches! In this case it was a one off and it sold most recently about 15 years ago for $11m. Rather puts that awful AP thing to shame :eek:

Are you confusing automatic with general mechanical movements here? :confused: A quartz analogue will (most usually) use a stepper motor to drive a very simple gear train and will usually 'tick' once per second. A spring driven mechanical movement will 'tick' at somewhere between 2.5 & 5Hz.

Automatic means a spring driven mechanical watch that it wound automatically by the movement of the wearer, as opposed to hand winding.
