Not really surprised, just shocked at the extent.

Not me, I don't buy much big branded stuff in terms of the hygeine and food markets.

If you're at all into advertising check out the war between cadburys, nestle and mars, it's an interesting case I thought. I love those old fashioned overly scripted but cleverly worded ads.

Swap the word 'control' with 'supply' and this article becomes much less paranoid.

This, and actually, supply is not even that true. The parent companies for most of these don't supply the products, but support management and finances of the child companies.

The most surprising thing about your post is how little I buy from the 10 corporations that allegedly control everything I buy.

There's not even a fuel company on there?

That's mainly a list of junk food providers :p

Looking over that, I buy - in order of decreasing frequency - only three items:

Mars Bars
Oral-B toothpaste
Head and Shoulders

Needless to say, its not nearly everything I buy.

It's idiot opening posts and people like this that make it difficult to distinguish between genuinely concerning business practices and internet wanna be blade runner bull****.

Whats more surprising is that the small company i work for has active projects with 3 of those big names and has worked with others in the past
