Battlefield 4 system upgrade

Thanks for the reply. I already have an SSD (See OP). What would the amd equivalent specced look like?

Time for some thinking before I make my mind up/ order.

Something like this, assuming your case can take the radiator:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **FREE SHIPPING** £239.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £119.99
1 x Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £101.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Sapphire Blue" 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (PV38G186C9KBL) £65.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler *Manufacturer Refurbished Unit - 90 Day Guarantee £44.99
1 x Corsair Fan, SP120 PWM Low Noise High Pressure Fan 4 pin, Dual Pack (CO-9050012-WW) £25.99
Total : £598.93 (includes shipping : FREE).

The H100 will let you get to 4.8-5GHz overclocks, and the two fans will quieten the cooler down.

Thanks teppic, where would the 8320 fit in on the BF4 CPU Scaling HERE?

Also would you not recommend an FX-6300 compared to the 8320 based on price/ performance?

Would the corsair fit into my antec 300 gaming case listed HERE?

Same as the 8350 as you can easily overclock it to 8350 speeds (and more). If the budget allows go for the 8320, if not, the 6300 will give you good results.

The 8320's clock speed would determine that - the graph is incorrect in that the 9590 is 4.7GHz, not 5, and the 9370 is 4.4GHz. All 8320s will reach 4.4GHz with a reasonably good board and cooler.

I wouldn't get a 6300 because newer games will make very good use of the two extra cores.

If the H100 cannot fit, a £30-£35 air cooler is good enough for 4.5-4.8GHz overclocks.

Ok, these items are for definite:

1. CPU Cooler?
The Corsair Hydro H100 is too big to fit in my case (Antec Three Hundred).
Which CPU cooler would you recommend? Would be great if you could link to overclocking results people have achieved using similar specced cooler.

2. Power Supply?
I currently have a Corsair HX 520W, will this be sufficient for the build?
I have never done crossfire/ SLI and dont intend on this anytime soon.

3. Graphics card?
The 7970 Matrix Platinum is now back up at £299.99.
Which card would you recommend for running BF on Ultra 1920 x 1200 with all bells and whistles?

4. RAM?
The ram teppic (1866) linked is slower than that of scotsdragon (2400)?
Results (biased probably) from corsair show Battlefield 4 Loves high speed memory.
I dont mind paying a bit extra for a more reliable overclock/ faster speed memory/ more reputable manufacturer.
Obviously has to be compatible with motherboard/ CPU. Again - Would be great if you could link to overclocking results people have achieved using similar specced

Now that the motherboard offer is over, the Asus 970 EVO R2.0 board offers the same kind of features and performance, but saves £20 (you just have worse Crossfire/SLI support).

Any good £25-£35 cooler should get clocks of 4.5GHz, maybe a bit higher.

520W is sufficient for a 280X/7970 plus 8320, but only just.

£300 is far too much for a 7970. The 280X models start around £220 I think. Prices have gone up recently. A 7950 would be adequate, but an overclocked 280X will be better for BF4.

You're not guaranteed to run above 1866MHz with the CPU. Real world performance increase above this is very, very small.

Here's an updated suggestion:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS Radeon R9 280X iPower IceQ X2 Boost 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £239.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £119.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Sapphire Blue" 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (PV38G186C9KBL) £65.99
1 x Alpenföhn Brocken CPU Cooler £32.99
Total : £560.94 (includes shipping : £10.00).

You could also get a 290 for £310 if you want superb BF4 performance.
