depends if the frame is badly dented there is no way a new screen will fit nice and flush.
That's a good point. How terminal does this look?

What's to stop people from handing things in to non-local police stations and reducing the likelihood that people will claim their lost items?
Looks like it's goosed
I'd imagine there will be some internal damage as well
Actually that would be very handy for me, there's a station 5 minutes down the road from where I work, which is a 15 minute train ride from where I found it. It wouldn't be unreasonable to hand it in there, would it? It's all the same force so the information that an iPad has been handed in should be made available to all forces? I may pop in at lunch and see what they say.
It didn't seem to have a 3g connection, so I assume it's a wifi version, could that be blocked?
Well, just spent 10 minutes walking to the police station, only to find that it's closed. Thanks, Google!
Apple wouldn't be allowed to give that information out
If there are saved e-mails, can you not glean enough information to start another successful OCUK detective hunt?
wouldnt apple be able to contact the owner though? I wouldn't have expected them to give info out (DPA etc) that would just be silly!
But if we do that I might not get a few iPad!
From what I saw of the emails, they seemed to mostly be marketing emails from places like rent a car. I wasn't able to open any other emails though due to the extremely limited use of the touch screen.
Take it to the Apple store, plug it in to a Mac and get the details.
Hand it in to the police with the details and I'd also report it to Apple to be sure. Can't do much more than that.
Maybe email the email account that you have access to, on the off-chance that the owner remotely checks the account
